Actor shot - cause a mystery

I love misteries

But they commonly show a hand slowly poking through an open door and you can see the "evil" hollow point bullets as the revolver cylinder rotates and then fires.

I now usually now say the supect with the automatic did it as they are the "evil" 17 shot handguns. Who cares that they can't do the same thing. You are not supposed to know these things.

they were too cheap to hire a gun person.
They had an armorer on the set, but according to at least one report, he had been sent home for the night before the incident occurred. Reason stated was economical as you say.

The (most credible sounding) reports I've read concur with Mr. Ayoob's comments. A bullet got stuck in a chamber and driven out the barrel by a blank loaded and shot later.

That version makes a lot more sense anyway because someone who was expecting the hammer to fall on a dummy would certainly notice something amiss and call for an armorer if a primer suddenly went off and lodged a bullet in the barrel.

And why wasn't the squib cleared afterwards, or at least marked? I'd say have a gun each for blanks, dummies and lives. I've heard primers go off, you'd hear that. And when you pulls the cartridges, and find an empty...I'd say there's more than one person with lack of brain activity.

MASSAD AYOOB - "(There was some question how much brain activity there was BEFORE Hexum performed this act.)"

:) You've got that right.

I never met Hexum, but I knew a couple of producers, directors, and a writer who'd worked with him before. They all had the same opinion of his "intellect." Probably the kindest words I heard were, "That guy's so dumb he doesn't know the difference between germ and German Shepherd."

Hexum ain't (wasn't) the only dumb actor in Hollywood, by a long shot. He just got caught at it. :uhoh:

Recall John Eric Hexum (sp?)
about 15-20 years ago accidentally killed himself on a movie set, pointing a revolver loaded with blanks at his head and pulling the trigger. Darwin at work.
Yeah, he was in Cover Up. I remember the incident. He wasn't just playing with a blank pistol -- he was playing Russian roulette. Obviously, he lost.

He was goofing around sort of playing russian roulette with a pistol loaded with blanks.

Crime scene investigation?

Any details about angle of entry? That would certainly help identify cast vs. audience culpability.

"He's been seen by three different physicians ... and every single one has said that he was shot with a bullet," Matlack said.
Um, wouldn't a simple x-ray or other imaging scan have told them right away whether or not any foreign object was lodged in his head, and at least what shape and size it was? Or do they lack such basic facilities in NJ?
