"For the past decade our federal gun laws have been woefully underenforced. It is our hope that with the appointment of a new Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE), the Justice Department will finally make the enforcement of our gun laws a top priority.

"We have been especially disappointed with the enforcement record of the current Administration because they came in promising to more vigorously enforce our gun laws. But as Department of Justice's own data show, 20 of the 22 major federal gun laws are enforced so rarely they might as well not exist.

"We hope that the appointment of Carl Truscott will lead to significantly higher levels of enforcement of illegal gun trafficking and corrupt gun store laws. And we hope to see much more vigorous enforcement against criminals who lie on the criminal background check in order to illegally purchase a gun. In 2002, there were only 578 prosecutions out of a possible 136,000 pages. For the sake of all law abiding citizens, we hope that the appointment of Carl Truscott will mark a turning point in our nation's enforcement of gun laws."

Now that's a job that I want.

You betcha! I'd tell the agents to cooperate with local law enforcement on cracking down on gangs. They're the ones doing all the shooting and they're the ones who needs to be locked up. Jurisdiction will be on the presumption that the firearms used by the gangs are either illegal or that they're felons w/firearms. If federal charges can't be supported, then the ATF agents would serve as "witnesses" to the good conduct of the local law enforcement agents in making the bust.

Well, maybe they'll listen and bust more companies that don't cut up receivers correctly so that all those terrorists purchasing dummy machine guns will stop shooting up our kids schools!

AGS is worse the all the other anti-gun groups combined. Actually, AGS is probably a combination of all the other anti-gun groups. They try and give the image of supporting gun owners while actually fighting for restrictions on gun owning americans.

I have to comment on this little piece of information from their site:

Myth: Mandatory crime gun tracing will mean an additional burden on tax-payers and law enforcement.

Fact: Crime gun tracing is conducted and paid for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The only “burden†on state and local police is to fill out a one-page form and fax it to ATF. Moreover, if the police are confident they know that the source of the gun is legitimate and will not add useful information to the database for identifying gun traffickers, they can choose in their discretion not to trace the gun.
Whew! I'm glad the BATF pays for it so that tax-payers are not burdened with the cost. I guess the BATF gets their money from a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
