So I went to the air show at Pease International today, its somewhere in NH. Imo, it was pretty good, but I wish the announcer would shut up during the flights.

But on to the gun relation.

So the Army was there and had most of their small arms on display(real guns:neener:). They had the M16, M16 with the M203, M249, At4, M4, a Winchester shotgun, a M60 and a M24! It was pretty cool, I got to handle actual live machine guns. I'm not as suprised because they were live, but how easy they were to access. No barrel blocks, no tags in the barrels, most of the people pointed the guns at other people and generally lacked the "4 rules" by most of the people there. I of course, made sure not to muzzle sweep people the best I could(lots of people). I think the best part was switching the M16 to burst :D even though I didn't fire it.

Besides the lack of safety, there were some other issues I found with the soldiers at the displays. When I was talking to the "sniper" about the M24 I asked how long the barrel is, just for small talk and he said "uhh, 18 inches" while in reality its is 24". He also answered the question "how far can it shoot?" with "800 yards book, but 1200 yards in reality" which should really be meters. I asked another soldier about the bayonet lug on the Winchester 12, which he said, "no, bayonets are only for the rifles" rather concerned like". He also stated that they are being phased out, but being replaced by the Benelli M500(haha). Now it was a bayonet lug(recalled later on) and Benelli doesn't make a model M500.

But the M24 was very neat. When I picked it up I inspected the chamber to make sure it wasn't loaded. The scope was very, very, very, nice looking through but with the taped on cheek piece it was a little weird. It was heavier that I thought it would be though. The barrel does taper, but at the end of the taper is still longer than any varmint barrels I have seen.

I didn't correct them, however, because I have respect for them and what they are doing and they really weren't hurting the public so I figured I wasn't going to make a big deal over it. But they should know their gear.

What makes you think it was their gear?

They is a possibility that they were there because it was their weekend in the barrel. You may well have been talking SPC Jones, who in real life runs a water purification plant, or slings loads under helo's.

They may not have all the right answers because they were winging it.

Just a thought.....
