Am I missing something about gold dots?

In the .38/.357 125 grain speer gold dot loadings, I keep hearing reference to a shallow cavity version and a deep cavity loading (not talking about the short barrel types). However upon looking at the speer bullets website, I see no mention of two different types of 125 grain .38/.357 slugs. Am I missing something here?

As a side note: Will I likely overdrive the 135 short barrel gold dot .357 magnum in a 3" barrel or will it still be in it's envelope?

I belive they quit making the 125 low velocity version (deep cavity) now they make the 135 short barrel.

Your 3 inch barrel will almost certainly be fine. I have fired them into water from 4 inch and 6 inch barrels, with no problems or signs of overstressing the design that I could tell.

On another thread somewhere in the last few days, someone stated he had asked Speer about using the SB 135gr round in longer barrels. According to him, the Speer responder said they were comfortable with its performance in barrels up to 4" long. Just passing this along.

Was this using the .38 special +p version? I plan on using the magnum version which is already some 130 fps faster out of a 2" barrel then the .38 +p loading.

This is what I was thinking might be the case, which means when buffalo bore (for example other companies would be effected too) runs out of the low velocity stuff for their .38 +p 125 gold dots, what will they do then? The normal GD 125 grain wouldn't be nearly as good. This would be a shame, since the BB stuff performs great.

I just purchased Speer 357 SIG GD 125 gr., DoubleTap/GD 147 gr., and Speer 9mm +P 124gr.

All have 6 serrations.

The 125gr. Speer are shallow HP; the Doubletap 147gr. and the 9mm are both deep. The 147gr. 357 is really deep.

What's the story here?

(Whoops - found this thread in a search; didn't see it was in "revolvers". Maybe someone here can answer this anyway.)

From the looks of things, they quit making all bullets, but that's a different story :(

On Speer web site I found 3 types of 125 gr. jacketed bullets in .38/.357.

.. GoldDot ............ Uni-core HP ......... Uni-core SP

Buffalo Bore talks about GoldDots as low velocity design expanding below 800 fps.

As expensive and hard to find as their loaded ammo and bare bullets have been of late, they should be packed individually - in an envelope! Seriously, they seem scarce. My favorite GD is the Speer #4484 250gr .45 Colt low speed offering - try to find that! Midway says sold out and no backorder, too. I guess I'll stick with 158gr LHPSWC at +P ratings for .38s - and 255gr LSWC for .45 Colt... which still come in a box... or did!
