Ammo shortage?

What people do not know about Sportsman's Warehouse is the company was very close to closing down. That on top of this ammo buying frinzzy has caused there shelf's to be bare. It may look like they are selling a lot of things but some of the bare shelf's were from not having no money to stock them. Apparently they found some investors from Canada to help them out.

Interesting...funnty thing is they just opened a store in Henderson,NV and one out near the NW side of Vegas...some still deals on ammo and such,grand opening specials and all that..but closing down soon?

They seems pretty stocked up within the last month...prices kinda high but still stocked.

I was just in Cabelas in Washington State and there was no shortage of ammo. There was some real high prices, but no shortage.

Walmart has plent of 9mm $19 a 100 rounds and 7.62x39 $29 a hundred rounds (Winchester) but I don't know about rifles availability.

I got 125 rounds of Wolf for $20 from a dealer 2 days ago but it was loose not boxed.

I get Winchester 7.62 now because I'm going to be setting up a reloading system in the next few months so I need the brass.

Yeah, I got some WWB 9mm at walmart a couple weeks ago for around $19 ish, too bad a couple months ago it was only $15.97 for the same box.

I see some bare shelves- but no shortages. I know of some stores that only keep a few boxes sitting out, marked at premium prices. As soon as those go away, a few more boxes are pulled from the back. Everyone is saying that AR parts and components are unavailable too. I've bought 5000 bullets- .223 and 9mm, along with an AR upper, gas block and bolt carrier in the last month. The stuff is out there, but a lot of folks are trying to use the panic to make a little more of a profit.

More power to them! As long as the demand is high, it only makes sense to raise the prices. When demand subsides, I'll buy up the "barely used" and "I'll never use this many" bargains.

Ammo demand has been high at least all year, many law enforcement agencies have been waiting 3 months for the stuff they used to just call and it arrived. The war has taken a toll on supplies of those calibers. The numbers indicate sporting sales were up 10% for most of the year BEFORE the election.
Since the election of what's his name demand has skyrocketed, not only the high profile stuff like .223 but most all stuff. Dealers around here tell me the older folks and youth who have never owned a gun are now buying. Course the so-called "gun nut" crowds are stocking up.

Does that mean it can't be found? No, it can be found. Just sometimes takes some effort.

The election of the Self-annointed One has been good for the economy of at least gun and ammo sales. The AR manufacturers are commonly saying 6 month back orders when asked. And we all know how well most of the sporting industry is at accurately estimating backorder times!

Everybody has known for many months, if not years, that a presidential election Would take place on November 3, and that a Dem. could win.

Last summer, anybody with some cash could have bought Wolf (etc) 7.62x39 at $200/1,000 and .223 for about $250/1,000.
As many cases as were affordable.
Why did so many people wait, or did their quantity run low without being aware of the trend?

No Black Rifles and ammo scarce local. MAGAZINES are back ordered by
a dealer and prices continue to climb as is the non exisitant rifles. A
new Sportsman's Warehouse near Medford, Oregon lots of shotgun,
fair amount of sporting calibers, and little pistol and military calibers
about a month back. Yesterday's sale on Federal 22 ammo at BiMart
in Grants Pass, Oregon was sold out the day before (go figure). Midway
30 Cal 110gr. soft pts. I was going to order to reload some 30 Carbine
@1000, are back ordered. Some stuff in large amounts will not be
backordered (.30, 147gr.) Looks like tight times CMP is reported
that Greek 30-06 expected to run out in 18 months instead of estimated

My local Sportsmans Warehouse has not had any reloading supplies for at least 3 or 4 weeks. All the brass bins are empty, primer shelves are bare, no bullets to speak of. Even the handguns are picked clean. Where they use to stock at least 200 handguns, they maybe have 50-75. Shotguns are plenty, for now....After Barry gets our semi-autos, the pumps and levers will be next followed up by double barrels and singel shots.
Boys, better stock up on that black powder, lead balls and flintlocks soon! That's all we are going to have in a couple to three years!!

I'm optimistic though...

Soon - in a few months - people will be stocked up.

Many/most can't afford or justify buying more ammo when they haven't been shooting, especially because it's the cold weather months for 1/2 of the nation.

I predict that supply will amass around February after all of the current orders are filled and less new orders are placed.

i don't see a real shortage.

I work at a gun store and our distributor has NO Glock in .40SW, .45, or 9mm. None! Just a few .357 SIGs...
Also, no AR's... There is a REAL shortage of stuff. BUT many stores still have rifles and pistols available which gives the illusion of normal inventory.

Guy at the Silver Spur show in Abilene, Texas this past weekend selling the same white Winchester Box of 9mm for 29.00 per hundred

I asked him about the price, cause I just bought some at Wally World for 19.00 and a box of .40 for 29.00 ..

He took the box out of my hand, laid it back on the table and said 29.00 was HIS price...

Nah, we gots tons of ammo at the Rocky Mountain Sports in Riverton. The real question is the price, way high. Blazer 45ACP, $19.00, and they act like its a real big savings.
Priced Remingtom 35rem ammo at $26.00, when I can get it, core-lokts, at Wisconsin Cartridge, their own factory load at 2/3s the price. You know where I'm going online at. Some smaller independent ammo factories will make a killing on these times. Another place The hunting Shack out of Stevensville, MT., and Georgia Arms. Buy bulk, and you'll be happy. Let the big name factory producers go to heil....its an artificial shortage. They're trying to collect premium prices before there's major tax and restriction on factory ammo.

I agree that prices are going up on all ammo. High demand will do that.
I also believe that the manufacturers could produce more if they truly wanted to do so.

one of the problems is very few know where to buy supplys.the second is no one keeps hugh inventories.did you know that a stores inventory is taxed every yr.ergo the cost goes up.and some sites the posters talk about shooting 500 rds a week end.thats wasteful as you dont learn to shoot that way.and the surplus is not going to last forever.I dont know who has ammo as I seldom buy factory and I have enuf to last me a lifetime.with 15 press and 30 molds I can make ammo and my lead loads will kill a good as the best.
after all the old timers used pistol cart. to kill untold animals.32/20-38/40-44/40-38/55.they did not need the magnums.placed right 22 lr will kill a deer.

go out and buy reloading press and molds.make your own.

Just got back from Sportsmans Warehouse since my visit last week. I heard they were getting a shipment in on Tuesday so I figured what the heck, I'll stop by on Wed. during my lunch break.
Cleaned out again! Salesman told my friend that people were lined up last night waiting on the stock to hit the shelves, and they were cleaned out by the time the store closed. I did find one box of 1K large magnum pistol primers.

I just stopped by the local gun shop where I bought my Saiga a couple months ago. When I was there for that, they had maybe eight or so AR's on the wall -- all gone. The guy says they're on a four-month back order, and ammo is pretty scarce for him, too.

I caught a lot of flak for stocking up but hey I've got my 3k of 7.62x39 sitting the safe and am waiting on a 1k of Winchester to show up in January. .308 has been a pain but I got 1k of nonrealoadable in, and five hundred of reloadable in with another 250 or reloadable due in January. 2k of .357, 2k of .45 ACP, and about 6k+ in bricks of .22lr from Wally world. And a k of .38 special. Plus a few hundred rounds of slug 3" 12 gauge and a few hundred rounds of 12 gauge 00'. And when my last order of 8mm Mauser gets in January I'll have over 2k.

I'm still going to keep stocking up. I know some roll it yourselves guys who are at every gunshow who have great gun prices, and by then I'll have my spend stash refilled to pickup 9mm, they already know to set aside a k of FMJs for me. I've also got tons upon tons of spent brass, for round I fire I tend to find five to ten spent reloadable cases. So I'll be ordering my reloads and picking up lead salvage.

Lots of suppliers have product, but the buying frenzy has overwhelmed their systems and they are running two weeks or more behind with shipments. I received an order on Friday (12/12) that was accepted by the seller on November 15 - nothing unusual, just powder.
