I also got the bug to get a trench gun. Didn't have the $$ to buy a genuine and did not want the Norinco so I built my own. I bought the Numrich bayonette lug and bayonette to put on a cut down Winchester. Got the magazine cap off GB. Rear sling swivel off an old Mauser. Only thing is the barrel does not protrude much from the bayonette lug. I did not notch the barrel. Instead I filed down the threads on the bolts in the center. After it's in place turn the bolts a bit and it's firmly in place. I built it as a display piece so that will work for me. I thought about cutting the magazine so more barrel pokes through, but I'll let it be for now.
The bayonette and lug were blued, nice and shiney from Numrich so I soaked them in vineger and salt to "Age" them. Turned out pretty good for a first attempt. It will hang on the wall for a while until I win the lottery and can buy a real one.
