After my son appropriated my old Marlin 336, the 30/30 Ackley Improved one, I felt I could not face a hunting season without another 30/30.
Bass Pro Shop had some for sale, and this morning I picked up a Marlin 336Y, marked on the tag, "Spikehorn". The barrel is only 16.5 inches, and it weighs 6.5 pounds. Talk about a quick handling little carbine !! Out the door, it was $335. With the CCW card in my pocket, no 5 working day waiting period either.

On the way home, I stopped off at Trail Glades, to fire it. With the factory sights, it was easy to sight it in at 50 yards, and at 100, it will group into 4 inches.

I have an old Weaver fixed 2.5X, 20mm scope in the safe, so thats going on the new Marlin. This will be a fine little rifle for hunting in the palmettos and swamps here in Florida.

Congrats on the new "thudy-thudy"!
Every time I start to look at a new deer rifle my model 94 .30-30 rears its ugly head and asks:
What will that do for you that I can't do?
so I go on being content with what I have.:cuss:

eh, maybe next year...:D

Good luck this season!

Congrats! I think everyone should own a lever-action .30-30. It's just so...American.

A Marlin 1894C in .357 magnum is a good choice, too. My wife liked mine so much that I "had" to buy her one.

Sounds like a nice new rifle. Good luck this season with'er! Ah how I dream of hunting deer with a rifle versus my ol' slug gun one day...
