All the Mausers i've seen had blued receivers, or at least, some blue left. So i'm assuming that you worked to polished the receivers to bright metal. I think it looks great.

How did you do it?

I would be interested in doing this too, but i don't want to ruin anything.

Tauzero,I'm no mauser history expert but every Argentone 1909 I have seen has a shiney crest to it.I think some types of mausers were blued hile others in the white.

If my 1909's have been redone whoever did it paid exceptional detail to all markings and cartouche,I don't think these were redone.

Now here is a Chilean 1895 I recently scored,it is mainly blued on the reciever.A few dents and dings otherwise excellent condition.

S&B ammo is doing better in all my mausers compared to PP ammo.

this is how my K98 performed. The winchester 170gr was so low it barely was on paper while the S&B 196gr was center to the right.

No custom models, but a nice Yugo 48 with a unique serial number. Five Swedish 96 , one a short rifle, a cut down with a two digit serial number.

That Venezuealn is a fantastic looking rifle. I would love to have one of those or one from Chile, if I could get an intact crest like that.

jkingrph.......keep an eye out on gunbroker. There are many various for sale,in different condition and prices accordingly.

While many have finish tarnished or in some cases the crest removed (Argentine 1891) the shootability may be fine.

I also have a Brazilian 1908 7mm I haven't posted yet, while I normally prefere to get a pristine condition rifle in this case it has alot of bluing gone but still shoots good.

I'm really becoming a fan of 7mm Mauser.

My Swedes are real accurate but typically shoot high until I finally go and get a replacement sight for them.

I too plan on getting a Yugo, the are more affordable than some other types yet shoot good.

here is my latest toy. mauser guild rifle based on a small ring 98 chambered in 9x57. double set triggers, claw mounts, ribbed barrel, two leaf rear sight & folding tang sight. this one has been used quite a bit & the stock has many dings & gouges.

My Brazilian 1908 7mm.

It doesn't produce great groups so far but still a fun shooter. The barrel is sparkling yet has some wear.

All my mausers so far Sellier&Bellot does better than Prvi Partizan.I've seen guys with handloads take mausers to a new level of accuracy though.

I'm thinking about using very fine steel wool and shine up the receiver what do you think?should I ?

here is another Brazilian 1908 in 7mm I purchased a little while ago.

Shot it today and with 173gr it either shoots too high or too low with sight adjust ments so I may need to go with a lighter grain to bring impact down, but it shoots good though.

and my second Persian mauser, same deal it shoots too high or low between adjustments so with this one I may need to use a lighter grain.

Without really trying, I've accumulated three good Mausers: A Swede Husky M38 (96 action) and two 98's: a Brazilian/Czech rework .30, and a minty Chilean 1935 Carbine. I likum!

please post pics of that minty Chilean 1935,I have been looking for one.

Got a Czech VZ23:DI have been informed this is a 98/22 Mauser not a VZ23

ohhh it shoots good.:D:D

only problem is just like my Persians one click elevation is too low,one click up goes to high so I might have to file the front sight to bring impact into the black.

S&B ammo, this is a typical group but was best of 3,not by much though.

I don't have a photo but somewhere around here is an unaltered 98K with rod and bayonet. I figured I should leave at least one in original condition.

well i've got a few more in the works, some have been showed & some haven't.
tweed project that will resemble the prewar special african type when done. has double set triggers, sculpterd bottom metal with a hinged lever release floorplate. rear sight has been reworked to resemble the 1000 yard tangent sight that was used on some mauser sporting rifles.
considering doing double square bridges cut for talley rings. bolt is tacked in position, i still have to weld it.

manchurian mukden mauser sporter, i've rasped the hogback off the stock & added a pachmayer old english pad since the photos were taken & i have a spare receiver for another project.

dwm gew 98 with octagon 6.5x55 barrel project. since the pics i've added double set triggers & a shotgun style triggerguard. extended the tang on the receiver to compliment the shotgun style triggerguard. i'm shapping the quarter rib now.

[...] does anyone know what company produced SaxonPig's stock in post # 40.
It is a factory CZ Mannlicher stock, but I am certain that a semi-inletted custom stock for a standard '98 could be ordered from one of several stock companies.

:)
