Any of these milsurps in short supply?

I am waiting on my C&R and I think there are some great prices out there. Problem is, I don't have much to compare them to. Please look at my list and tell me if I need to JUMP on any of these deals. Let's say I can only choose 3 for my first purchase, and the other 2 have to wait. Which 2 would you wait on and be comfortable knowing the same deal would be readily available in a few months?

How often do these suppliers sell out of these guns and how often do prices fluctuate, I'm very new to this. Thanks.
 
only ones i would wait on are the sks and the cz52

i would jump all over the execllent condition 24/47 mauser at aim or sog right now...

the mausers have really dried up since last fall, so have the mosins...
 
Thanks for that input. What does the 24/47 mean? LIke I said, I'm new. I see "WWII German K98 8mm Mauser Rifle"

Has the Enfield been pretty easy to get?

I was afraid you'd say to wait on the pistol. I only have one pistol right now and want to be able to take one with me and leave one with my wife...
 
Try and get the Enfield first - MkIV if at all possible - once you find one. SKS too - get that in the bag ... but try and get one other than from bottom of barrel. I haven't looked but probably still some Turk Mausers around and they shouldn't be too spendy. Nice quality Mauser K98 original would be tasty but - possibly more money.

Haven't checked out Mosins of late but a year ago there were shiploads of M38's re-arsenalled versions, for very little.

Indeed, the CZ-52 can wait I'd say. I'd not reckon the CZ would be ideal for your wife - consider a Mak for her - or even for yourself. Bulgy Maks probably still around for $150 region.
 
We made our first gun a Ruger SP101 revolver so that we'd both be comfortable with it. I don't want to spend another $400 on a carry gun so I figured I'd take the $99 CZ on the rare occasions we weren't together.
 
By the way, thanks for the response P95. By bottom of the barrell, were you referring to the SKS, or to the fact that I chose almost the cheapest version of all the guns?
 
Oh OK - well the SP is excellent - good piece.

Even for you tho - despite liking my CZ - I somehow cannot see it as a good carry piece - probably why I mentioned a Mak - for $50 more that would IMO suit carry duty better. Other thing with CZ - the std 7.62x25 ball is IIRC reckoned to be potentially a tad excessive on penetration ... not always so desirable in a defensive piece.

To add .... ''bottom of barrel'' ... what I meant was - try when getting an SKS to get if you can other than the worst specimen - they can be rough! Don't ask me - my first was a dog!! ''Select'' can help for another $10 or s0, but often something of a lottery.

I have read those things about the CZ. I'll look into the Mak. One other question. These milsurp C&R rifles don't typically come with a decent case or bag right? I'm putting together an accessories catalog order.

yeah they come in a bag... :p full of cosomoline grease....

24/47 Model 1924/ revised in 1947 these are the czech mausers, very good quality.
I have a model 24 very nice rifle, have had it over a year and still get that cosmoline weep.
Definatly pick one up.

I didn't see the 2nd part of your post. Don't worry, you can denegrate my choices all you want. That's how I learn around here. I was glad it was just referring to the SKS though. For pricing projections, I chose the middle grade. Still, I think that is the one gun I will for sure leave off my first order because it looks like there are tons of them out there, and I am trying to kickstart a WW2 collection.
 
Haha - YY got in first!! Well - maybe not even a bag - just all wrapped up in multi layers of Cosmo impregnated paper!!

No extras that I know of - cases or bags. Some milsurp stuff does come with odd things like cleaning kit, bayonetetc. CZ-52 may still come with a flap holster too.
 
Great stuff...bringing up more questions.

I want a great rifle, but for my 1st C&R purchases, I want a representation of the main battle rifle of USA, Germany, Britain, and Russia. Does the 24/47 fit in this category.

I have heard of this cosmoline you speak of. It sounds awful, but I'm sure I'll grow to love it. :)

The bag though, would it be suitable for storage and range transport?
 
save your acc. budget and spend it on simple green, rags, a steam iron, more rags, steel wool, more rags, brake cleaner, rags, brushes, rags, and some rags.... :p
 
the 24/47 was reworked under german occupation i think... it's a great example of a mauser even if the action is a little short...
 
Not on your list but swede mausers seem to be decreasing in availability and quality, K-31s seem to be getting harder to find, M-39s still available from Wholesale Guns and Ammo. They're a good choice, some people feel they're the best version of the mosin-nagant, have an interesting history, and are pretty accurate. This is an expensive habit. Since december I've bought 2 m1s, an 03A3, 3 antique M39s, an 1896 Swede, an M28 and 2 M-N 91/30 ex-snipers. Good luck finding your favorites.

I know that Big-5 still has M44's for $80 in the stores. Not a huge price jump when you factor in transfer fee and shipping. I seriously spent about $10 more by buying at Big-5 over AIM when I bought my Mosin Nagant.

I'd get a 1903A3 first. They cost a lot more and once you see how cheap other mil-surps are, you'll have no problem buying a few versions of the various actions out there. ;)

My first mil-surp was my Mosin-Nagant M44. My next will be an SKS just to have fun with. I did, however, inherit several milsurps from my grandfather.
 
24/47 means modeled after the FN 24 intermediate action Mauser 98 rifle, not to be confused with the Czech VZ-24 which is a standard length mauser 98. 47 means that it was a postwar model, with production probably started in 1947.

They are great rifles, it wouyld be on the top of my list of the ones listed in the first post to get.

The current crop of Russian Mosin Nagants are a lot better imho than those sold over the last several years. Look for que words like "rearsenalled, arsenal wrapped, or refurbished' to get a dandy rifle at a rediculously low price.

The Yugo SKS' are cheap, but they seem to still be pretty plentiful. Of course as with a lot of milsurps, this seems to change at a drop of a dime. The $80 K-31s dried up a few months ago, the $40 turks went the same route about 3 years ago, as did the $150 unissued M48s about 2 years ago.

Think - thick grease - with unique smell. There are some who rate that smell only second to the whiff of $9 in the morning air :p

A 1903 Springer would be great if you can get one - but could be too spendy for budget. I think you are just gonna have to keep scanning all the ad's and pick up what you can when you can ..... each aquisition will have you nearer your goal.
 
Always seems to be just one more find of one version or another of Mausers out there. Its the Enfields that have been really rare in recent years. Where I live there seems to be an endless supply of Mosins and SKS, but who knows. It is the Enfields I never never see in good condition.
 
They are essentially the same rifle, both No4 Mk1. The Savage was built in the US at Savage arms, the other was built in England at their Fazekerly, Maltby, or BSA factories. The Savage is said to be a bit more rare, so it costs more, but they list the Brit rifles as in better condition.
If you're looking to "collect" the Savage would be a little better, if you want more of an example of the action type and (possibly) a better shooter, than go with the Brit ones. I think SOG allows you to handpick (for a fee) the manufacturer and the model of sights you want.

Mk I sights have a 300-yard battlesight (like a ghost ring type sight), and a flip up ladder sight that is click adjustable
