Now that my range is closed I am looking for a good, preferrably outdoor, range that allows pistols and high power rifles. Also, if anyone in the area wants to get together and shoot, or knows of a good gun club I'd definitely be interested... I live in Huntsville, the closer the better

Would you consider driving to Des Moines?

It's about an hour and a half for me, but I'm game if you are.:)

Wow, you're one heck of a driver if you can make it to huntsville texas in an hour and a half ;) Sorry, it's my fault, I should have mentioned in the post that it is huntsville tx

It's ok, I know where Huntsville is.

I'm only going as far as Des Moines!!!

Thought maybe you were up for a drive.:D

Ah, sorry, sense of humor this evening is not doing well, It's cold and I'm sick...Hopefully I'll be back up to par tomorrow
:banghead: <--- feels like I've been doing this all day

Synoptic, there is a range just down the road a mile or two off Park road 40 (?) in the State Park. Some guys from Houston meet up there once or twice a year with all sorts of multi shooter assault rifle thingys and such. I'm not sure exactly where it is in the park, but there is one there.

That is the range I used to use, sorry to say it is now closed (supposedly) except for certain times throughout the year. A friend of mine went out there a couple weeks ago and came back reporting the range was closed after he spoke with a ranger. A local range owner that I spoke too confirmed the closing of the range and said it would only be open during certain times of the year. As soon as the rain stops and I'm more inclined to take my car on those dirt roads I am going to go out and confirm the closure for myself, but in the meantime I am also looking for some good ranges in the area. I would recommend before your buddies come out again they call to make sure it is open, it would suck to drive an hour or so to find the range closed down...

If you don't mind the drive, the Leon Co. Gun Club in Buffalo TX (on I-45 b/t Centerville & Fairfield) is the range I use. Pretty good facilities & a lot of good people there too. Also, on every third Sunday, we have a local IPSC match that's pretty new-shooter-friendly. If I know you're coming, I can meet you out there.

We're having a gun show in Buffalo this weekend 9-5. There will be info on the range plus a lot of good deals (unlike most gun shows nowadays.) I'll be there on Saturday. If you can't make it this weekend, Buffalo Sporting Goods (by the Brookshires) will also have information. Just ask for Archie...

College Station has a brand new indoor pistol range. Champion Firearms put it in a little while ago. I hear its a darn nice range.

I may check out that range in buffalo once the weather clears up a little. I'd love to go to the gun show this weekend, but I am taking my girlfriend down to Wallis to see the baby sugar gliders we will be getting in april (I am missing a LAN party as well). As for the one in college station, I'm going to be buying a pistol from Champion's soon anyway so I'll check it out as well... Thanks for all the responses so far!

How could I forget that? :banghead:

I was there a few weeks ago. It was the first time I'd ever fired a CZ-75, Beretta 92F, & a S&W 5906. Ended up w/ a great appreciation of Czech gunmakers, but the other two were pretty good...

It's an excellent range to try different pistols out. Another one (if you don't mind the drive) is the DFW Gun Range. They have a huge variety (including Class III stuff)

Champions Indoor Range is excellent. Just a little small though. Otherwise, it is well worth checking out.
