I have always wanted to have a milsurp K98 Mauser. No real need for one, just thought it would be a fun plinker. I have seen Mitchell's Mausers adds in the Rifleman and other gun mags. Does anyone have any experience dealing with them? Is the quality of the guns they sell "as advertised"?

A few years ago I got one. It acutally turned out to be a Yugo m 48, but an exceptionally nice piece with a unique serial number. I really do not remember if it were advertised as a M-98 or the 48. I see now they do list 98's with nazi markings. Call and make sure of what you get. They are a littly pricy, but ok.

over priced

If you do a search you'll find many posts regarding them from unhappy customers. They short answer is that they charge about twice what you would pay for a similar condition mauser at a gun show. Also, they used to sell Yugo 48 rifles and come very close to misrepresenting them as German K98Ks.

What are good used K98K's going for at gun shows? I'm not talking about a collector. Just a good shooter.

They are expensive, but are some of the most professional folks I have ever dealt with. If you want a good Nazi Mauser, go with them.

get a mauser from soem one like Classicarms.us you can see the rifles codes and features before you buy so you know what your getting. and they are very reputable

Wow, I still like my Mauser, but it's nice to know. Scam or not, they are pleasant folks to deal with. I guess I never put to much stock in refinished guns, so it's no real surprise that it's not authentic.

They jack prices up in hopes of catching new buyers or collectors. They are nothing more than Russian Capture K98s that they have refinished and polished (which was never done) and sell them for 2x the price. I've heard rumors that they also do their own stampings. On top of this, they are downright fraudulent in how they describe their M48s. "Mauser M48 K98K", "Made directly after the war". Yeah, try three years.

M.M. forge stampings, scrub the history out, and then refinish them like a high class bubba. They are falsly leading people to believe that they are buying NAZI marked Mauser rifles. In reality, they are buying scrubbed rifles devoid of anything left of collector value. They overmark prices to cater to noobs that have little idea of what they are buying, typically a person that shoots other types of firearms: black rifles, or rimfire shooters that saw a Mauser 98k in a movie or at the range and what to get a clean looking one to shoot occasionally and who have done very little research.
Buy an RC Mauser if you want a shootable 98k Mauser, or get a Yugo 24/47 or M48a, but don't say that you weren't warned about M.M.
