Anyone Reload 45 ACP?

I’m new to reloading and I have a question about brass that some of you veteran reloaders might be able to help me with. I’m eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new 1911 that I’m having built. I’m also running low on brass, and due to the holidays ,I find my self having no time to reload (it’s not something that I like rushing). So I’m going to buy a case of 45 ammo, that way, I can shoot all I want to christen my new friend, and have brass to reload later… I know… Brilliant!
So, here’s my question:
What ammo should I buy so that I have good brass to reload? These are the contenders so far:

Magtech
Sellar & ballot
Remington bulk (green box)
Remington UMC
Federal American Eagle
Winchester white box
Fiocci
PMC
Blaser Brass

Which of these will give me the best brass to reload with? Did I leave out any good (cheap) ammo that will give me good brass?

Rem UMC Federal American Eagle or Win white box
no experience with magtech or fiocchi Rem green box too expensive the S&B I had had tight primer pockets.
PMC brass is ok

Scrounge every thing you can at the range. Winchester White Box is great. Remington is a bit "softer," but good stuff. All the military stuff I have found works great.
Bascially, anything but AMERC will do fine.

I prefer to use fedearl, remington or Winchester. I have reloaded a few magtech rangew "pickups" and they seem fine. I have experienced problems reloading S&B brass - the primer pockets appear to be a bit tighter than the other bfands. I nam in the process of using my S&B brass range 'pickups" in matches where I do not have to pick up the brass.

I see nothing wrong with your list. .45 ACP's are very forgiving when it comes to the brass. Just leave Amerc for the idiots to pick up.

All my couple 1000 of 45 brass was S&B and WWB. I have no complaints with easier. I actually like the S&B, cause there's a more positive "feel" when seating primers.
Besides, rumor i hear was that .45acp is so low pressure, you either lose the brass or the primer pocket wears out before the brass wears out.

WWB is likely a better price though.

Thanks for the replies. I'm probably going to go with the Win white box stuff, but does any one have any experience reloading Magtech? It is about $50 less for the case than the Win white box, and my HK likes it just as much as the win, and I'm sure some of it will find its way into the 'ol USP.

Magtech reloads just fine. My favs are Winchester & federal.

Just a thought but why not buy once fired brass and use the left over money to buy primers, powder and bullets. You will get a ton more shooting in.

I would love to, but I really don’t have the time right now, and I have already decided that I’m calling in sick (playing hooky) the day that my new 1911 comes in. Plus, I’m kind of iffy on reloading brass that was fired in guns other than mine. Call me crazy, but I like to know what the brass was fired out of.

I have too many headstamps to count. I use gravel pit pickups, buy brass from the indoor ranges, wherever I can find it. I do inspect the brass after tumbling. The brass I cull out is the PMC brass with the offset flash hole. Something about an offset flash hole bugs me.

I reload 45ACP using Winchester, Federal, Remington, and Independence brass. I use Winchester large pistol primers, JSWC's, and RN. My bullets are either 200gr. or 185gr. as I don't see a need for going to 230gr.

Congrats! .45 ACP is very friendly as far as brass goes. I'll reload anything I find except for amerc. If I had to choose out of those I'd probably get Winchester-just be sure it's not the non-toxic stuff that uses small pistol primers. However, I wouldn't start with loaded ammo. Search eBay and wait for a deal or buy from brassmanbrass. If you do buy on eBay look for brass with all the same headstamp so you know what you get is reloadable. I did recently score 2000 Winchester .45 ACP cases off eBay for $70 something.

I do shoot as much .45 ACP as I do other rounds such as .44 Mag etc. I bought 2-3 100 round boxes of WWB back in the day (a year ago) and I use range pickups that are in good condition etc. Never had a problem for shortage of brass. Most of the time, I shoot 100 rounds at a time and generally have 100 more loaded back at home.

Don't sweat it. After you size it and shoot it it came from your gun. Like everyone says, stay away from Amerc and you will be fine. Iv'e shot it all and it all is good. Some holds up better than others. It all lasts a long time unless you hot rod it.

My favorite brass for .45 ACP is Win. I bought 5000 new unprimed cases for my "good" loads and use a brass catcher to catch and save them. For my "throw away" loads where I can't catch/save the brass, I use mixed brass picked up at the range. I keep the good brass separate from the mixed brass.

Watch out for the Win NT brass which use a SMALL pistol primer instead of a large primer. I discard all the NT brass.

You can buy a couple of the Magtech "Shooter's Packs" which come to about $10 a box. I love their brass, but its all really the same.

I load W-W and Remington mostly. I've learned to stay away from nickel-plated .45 ACP brass and use just the unplated stuff.

Nickel is great for revolvers, but it doesn't seem to function as well in automatics after a few reloads.

When I buy .45ACP I buy Remington. But I have reloaded a lot of range brass in my 63 years. If its yellow and doesn't say Amerc it'll be OK.
