my one thought is that you'd be restricted to the LeveRevelution ammo, no milsurp or winchester white box... personally, i'd stay with a bolt action .308.

oooh, or, how about a removable mag levergun? does anybody make that?

anyway. my 2 cents.

The Browning BLR has a removable mag. It is also available in a wide range of calibers including .308.

I have the 308 Marlin Express I have'nt had the time to shoot it yet because I have been putting in 12 and 16hrs at work.Yes Hornady is the only one that is makin the ammo right now but remington just started makin ammo for it this year.

Not a new concept.

Anybody remember the short-lived .307 Winchester, sold alongside the beefed-up Winchester Model 94 in the same chambering?

The beauty of the .308 Marlin is that pointy rubber tip. It also makes you beholding to Hornady for ammo and components.

Something to think about...

I have shot one. I found it to be about the same as a .308 in recoil, and trajectory had alittle more drop. Easily under 1.5" groups at 100yds. Not bad for a levergun, but it is not on my "NEED" list. Hornaday makes the only ammo, as stated above.

308MX - I'm A Fan

Hello Matt, Yes, I own the Marlin 308MX. 100yd groups < 1" off a bench. Usual Marlin quality. Why...I'm a left handed Marlin lever fan who wanted a rifle with ballistics and hunting utility close to 308. You'll read that many poo poo this rifle given the reliance on the proprietary Hornady bullet (for now) and the .307 Win story. However, Hornady ammo price has been reasonable and the round has proven itself in terms of accuracy and terminal performance. Those with a positive outlook believe that 308 MX reloading options will emerge once other manufacturers get in the game and Hornady releases its bullet to reloaders. A good indicator of this possibility is Hornady's 2009 release of the leverevolution 30-30 gummy tip bullet for reloaders and Remington's new factory Core-Lokt 308MX offering. I'm saving my 308mx brass for now and enjoying the Hornady factory "fodder".

i got a 308mxlr today- actually went in the store to order a saiga .308, but couldn't resist the urge. I have wanted one ever since guns and ammo had the article on the leverevolution ammo. hope it warms up enough this weekend for some shooting, -39 windchill here right now.

Congrats on the new lever - bet you'll be impressed. I fully understand your purchase decision...seems like everytime I see a Marlin on a sales rack somewhere - I get curious and have to fight "the urge". Where are you located? Guess your behind the cold front heading east -- there's possible mixed rain/snow by Monday here in NC.
