My wife and I are seriously talking about moving to the Lower Keys in a few years. We have visited 3 times, the last time spending a week. We both can see ourselves living there...probly Big Pine key. We have done the research, looked at jobs and real estate, pretty much figured it out...its just a matter of saving some money, getting things in place and taking the plunge.
I was a the range today and started wondering about places to shoot down there. Looking around on the internet turned up only one range in Key Largo...100 miles from Key West. I simply cannot beleave there is nowhere to shoot in the Keys south of Key Largo. Anyone know anything about indoor or outdoor, public or private ranges in the Keys? Any big game hunting in the Keys? Any tips or things to know for folks thinking of moving there?
Thanks,
Jason

Cannonball, it's too, too bad one can't see those little buggers when they hop over the fences along Route 1, near the signs that say something along the line of "SLOW DOWN: KEY DEER ARE A PROTECTED SPECIES." No match for even a Kia or Suzuki. But ah well, John Pennekamp has some great built-in grills.

Here is a possibility in Key Largo:

I think this is the one you found and that is it for the Keys.
Maybe this is a business opportunity in the Lower Keys.
And big game? There may be a stray wild hog or two. That's it.
It's very expensive Jason.Everthing has to be trucked or flown in.
Dollar for dollar it may be America's most costly place to live.
But you can't beat those sunsets at Key West's Mallory Square and its a unique life style.
Conch's(Native Key's citizens)are very prideful ,similar to Texan's and some of the friendliest people in the world.
If you can afford it,its the greatest place on earth to live,IMO.

Sans, I've been to the Keys many times but never saw the signs. Good thing it wasn't a hunting trip. But it makes me wonder now what caliber for a Key buck? .22? :p
