Is our military using the AR-10? I just saw an Armalite ad in a gun rag and the copy made mention of use in Afghanistan.

It would be a good idea go have a designated marksman in each squad or a few per platoon with something semi-auto with a greater reach and more punch at long range to wage the war on terror.

Perhaps they could dust off a few M-14s and accurize them or grab some Springfield M1A rifles for greater reach in 7.62. Or, we could talk real nice to the Brits and add a FAL or two to a platoon.

I'm just for our brave troops having the best mix of small arms in the war on terror.

I've also noticed our troops using shotguns in urban settings in Iraq. Good job!!!

Victory and freedom

Several Army units in Iraq made use of the M14 rifles, and a heavily modified M14 was pressed into service in Afghanistan as the Designated Marksmans Rifle.

The Navy SEALs have been using the M14 for various missions since Vietnam.

However, to be blunt, if I were to pick the rifle for the DMR, the AR-10 would not be my first or second choice.

In any case, the Russians have been doing the DMR thing for decades, the way the deployed the Dragunov rifle. It's much different from how we use our own scout/snipers.

Yes they are. The SEALs are using one made by Knight I think, don't know who uses the Armalite.
