AR and AK patents

As far as I know, one of the stupid things Brady didn't consider was the expiration of the AR15 patents.

Think about it. You want a rifle. You want regular mags. You need a design that had LOTS of mags available before 94.

That's the AR and the AK.

AFAIK, the AR patent expired, and LOTS of companies ramped up to make them, since no licensing or royalties to Colt applied (who bought the patent from Armalite).

Anyone know WHEN the patent expired?

And is the same true of the AK?

Once again, we see how deliberate ignorance and conceit bring someone down.:neener: :D
 
I'm not certain, but I don't think there IS a US patent on the AK-47. If there is, how long do they last? The AK-47 is an old design, older than the M-16/AR-15, so it would expire much sooner. I'm looking at machining my own AK-derived pistol, so I'm interested in the outcome of this as well :)
