Are the colt brand 1911's any good?

You all just about have me talked into buying that next. I wanted to get a 9mm first, well next. I just got a buckmark a couple weeks ago, but want to get a 9mm, a 1911, and a cx4 storm. Then I will get into the rifles I "need".

Thanks for all the advise, I will head back up there this week sometime. Just need to come up with a reason to leave work early, then I will get the model numbers. It isn't a high end model I'm sure, and its kind of lost in all the Glocks at the store (the owner loves Glocks).

I have two Colt 1911s.
One is a Combat Elite 5 incher and one is a NRM Commander.
Both run great. In fact, I can't remember ever having a malfunction with either.

Get a Colt for nostalgia and light shooting, for pleasure or collection

Light shooting. Kinda makes you wonder why the custom 1911smiths prfer to build on Colts.

Get a Springer or Kimber for a heavy-use gun, like competition or heavy range.

Colts come from the factory with better quality internals, than that of Springfield or Kimber.

So what does everyone think of the new SW 1911s - especially their Commander sized scandium-alloy framed version?

I just called the store. It is a springfield 1911A1, new @475.00.

Must be early onset altzheimers.

Is that still worth getting?

Thanks,
Jim

PS, I found a picture on the web, but can't figure out how to put it on here.

Heh, ok, I don't need another one THAT much.

One quick and dirty way I use to check retail pricing is to go to the manufacturer's website for the sugg. retail.

Then go to auctionarms.com, gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com and search by the gun's name to see what the "real" sorta "going rate" is.

Most are priced high (everybody thinks they are sitting on a pot of gold) but at least you can get a general idea by looking at the bids/prices en toto if your particular shop is way out of line.

No, straight shooters. Dances has some good prices, but then seems like the next one is overpriced.

They have a used BHP for $500.

I've owned several 1911 autos over the years, including several Colts. The Colts that I owned were pretty good guns. However, I can't say they were better than other 1911's that I've owned. The main reason for buying a Colt would be because it is a "Colt".

The Colt wouldn't be a bad option but most of the other makers have as good or better quality. Generally, Springfields are cheaper and just as good if not better.

A horse is a horse of course...

:) :neener: Springfields are just as good..as probabaly many other copies..Now to put it all in perspective. "COLT'" is to pistol as "HARLEY" is to motorcycles...don't mean they're better. They Goit the history and an almost CULT following. which is good for holding value. My Harley buddies are heading to Daytona bike week . and they take a spare bike along in the trailer ..and its' a jap make not a Harley..... :cuss: yea, I know i'll get flake on this one.. ;)

LOL, carebear. That would be a LONG drive for you
Especially on a skateboard. :p

$475 for a Springer is not a real great deal, even if it's a 1911A1 Milspec.

Yeah but for that I just need to stand on the skateboard, point it northwest, grab a tree and let the world rotate beneath me till I'm back home.

I got 3 Colts. All shoot very well and I usually don't have problems with reliability. My newest one is nearly 10 years old, though. I have no experience with the newer guns.
