I have only fired one shotgun with a folding stock on it. I didn't find it to be a terrible experience but many people seem to have an aversion to them. Personally, I found the stock that was installed on this particular 590 (my cousin's) to be a bit wobbly. Shooting with it folded was an exercise in stupidity and a waste of perfectly good 12 ga ammo, but with it open it wasn't half bad.
Anyhow, suppose that the smaller size was useful to you. Granted, shooting with the stock folded would result in a loss of accuracy, but what about with the stock open like it should be?
Are there any solid, heavy duty, butt kicking, hand-to-hand combat worthy folding stocks out there, particularly for the 870 or the Mossberg 500?
I have limited it to these two for my HD shotgun. Probably the 870 because I already have one on layaway, but I also still consider the 500. Is a folder worth the effort or should I just stick with a regular style stock?
Thanks.
