I've measured several of my rifles from the muzzle back to the length that the mfg'r says is the length. Trouble is, I measure anywhare from the front of the barrel nut on one to the middle of the ejector slot (opening) on another!

Do various mfg'rs measure different ways?

Close bolt, drop a rod down the barrel until it touches the bolt. Mark at the muzzle. Distance from the end of the rod to the mark is the length. Remove and muzzle accessories like flash hiders or brakes unless permanently mounted. BSW

Most of them measure from the breach (including the chamber) to the end of the barrel, minus any muzzle brakes etc. Basically if you unscrewed the barrel and measured it end to end, including the threads you'd have your measurement.

On bolt rifles etc. the amount of barrel that his hidden/screwed inside the reciever varies but it's usually around 3/4".

the BATFE measures that way. and thats who we should be concerned about. they WILL include the length of permantly attached muzzel devices. (welded, specific silver saulders etc)
