Is anyone aware of a very basic book for the 1911? Something that starts with the identification of different parts along with what the part does.

It might go on to cover a full strip down and reassembly along with some basic adjustments that somebody might want to know how to do.

Lots of color pictures is a must too. I had trouble re-installing my sear spring until i found a good color picture of how each leg of the sear spring comes into contact with the sear.

Two of them:

I strongly suggest the 2 following. They are excellent:

1) "The Gun Digest Book of The 1911: A Complete look at the use, care & repair of the 1911 pistol", Patrick Sweeney (ISBN: 0-87349-281-1).

2) "Model 1911: Automatic Pistol", Robert Campbell, (ISBN: 0-88317-295-X).

I received these as Christmas gifts last year. They were so exciting that I read both in a single sitting.
