Hey guys, recently made a thread here about wanting to find a decent good condition Benelli M1 for trap and various other things. Well after doing some searching and waiting on gun broker I think I might have found a good deal but need your guys' input first. Bidding starts at $500. The reserve has not yet been met of course. I know it's hard to tell from pictures but do you guys think this gun is in fairly good condition? What's the most I should bud up to? Thanks!

That seems fair. I don't think you could wear one of those out. Seems a bit of cosmetic "wear" around the ejection port but they probably threw them in as a matter of course, given the game.. skeet/trap? No big deal.

I see a lot of wear marks along edges that are most likely something other than blued-steel (more like anodized-aluminum). In fact, there are marks all over the gun, even scratches at the end of the barrel!

Is this a big savings over buying a brand-new one?

I'm the last person that should comment on Benelli's, but I would pay around $600 for that if I had money burning a hole in my pocket

How much if the money were not burning a hole in your pocket, but was instead, hard to come by?
:uhoh:

They do not make new one's anymore. The newest version would be an M2, which retails for around $1150 without tax if bought in store, or shipping and FFL fees bought online. So around half price.

Also, I figure I could touch up the scratches with a bluing pen.

I have some experience with Benellis, and actually prefer the M1 over the M2. It just feels better in my hands and I shoot it better. If I seriously wanted this gun I would go to 700 or a bit better. If I read the auction correctly, it comes with only one choke tube, which is a negative as Benelli parts are not cheap. On the up side, I see an extended mag, which if it is an actual Benelli part (from the pics I think it is) will go for good money should you decide to part with it......should be enough money in that extension to pick up at least two more tubes. Looking at it closely, I still see the "sheen", my word, on the butt stock that tends to tone down as it is used which, along with some other little things that catch my eye leads me to think this one has not been shot much.

Yeah I'd most likely sell the extended mag and either get a smaller one or more chokes. I really wish I could find out the reserve.

If the seller ac6tually wanted to sell this he would put a real starting price on it and do without the reserve B.S. in my opinion.

In the condition shown with that stock and vent rib barrel $700.00 would be the max I would want to pay including shipping.

A couple of other quick thoughts. Looked at the pics again and noticed two things. The bead on the bbl is either the first generation original style found on the earliest guns imported by H and K, or it is a replacement. Also, the cocking piece is the old style......I have not seen a new gun come with that round cocking piece in close to 20 years. Just little things that add up to my belief that this one is one of the first generation H and K guns. In my circle, these are slightly more desirable, although I dont believe there is a really good reason for that line of thought as I dont believe there is any difference in quality between this gun and later guns. Good luck!

If I'm the only bidder and I don't hit the reserve do I just keep bidding until I do or is there a way to contact the seller about matching the reserve? Forgive my ignorance Ive only ever browsed with gun broker before.

I'd check the closed auctions and see if the gun has been listed before and how many times and if it drew any bids. If you are really interested and it doesn't draw any more bids, I'd contact the seller AFTER the auction closes and see if he'll deal. Can't hurt. I've gotten a coupla fair deals that way.
