Bersa Thunder 380 or HiPoint 9mm

I'm not really worried about the performance each round offers.
What I want to know is, In durability and easy of getting parts.

Is the Bersa or HiPoint better in terms of Life span.
Is the HiPoint a fixed barrel. I know the Bersa is fixed.

Can a new barrel or feed ramp be replaced on them?
Which would be easier to obtain parts for in the long run?

I plan to use this as my "plinker" and put 4000-6000 rounds on it?
 
I take it your price range is around $180, which is the going rate for the bersa around here. If you can scrape together another $40 or so, you can usually find a used Ruger P-series 9mm, or a S&W. Both are far superior and better suited as a plinker. Or maybe you'd like the makerov. The imitations usually cost the same as a bersa, and are pretty decent guns.
 
I'd take almost anything over a hipoint. So, of the two, go Bersa. The above comment about finding a used Ruger P series is good advice though, and WELL worth a few extra $.

But I only want to buy 1.

As for the Ruger.
I had a p90 in 45.
It shot good, but accuracy was NOT good.
 
Really? I had a p90 that could shoot 2 inch groups off of a rest at 25 yards. I loved that gun.
 
Between the two, Bersa hands down. But as mentioned, if you can scrape up a little more cash, you can get a really decent used gun. I bought a Ruger P94 .40 for $200, a S&W 19-4 for $190, etc. Heck, I even got hold of a NIB S&W 5906 for $300 last fall. That pistol will shoot circles around a Bersa and last ten times longer.
 
I am not saying the Hi-Point is a bad gun, but it is so ugly and bulky. On the other hand 9mm is a lot cheaper to practice than 380 acp. Bersa is small enough if you need to CC, it is a lot easier than the Hi-Point. I will vote for Bersa.
 
Well, at least you can get a barrel for a Bersa...no so easy for the HiPoint
as in the manual on their site...it is listed with the frame....

People who have never shot a HiPoint, let alone owned one, bad mouth them. People who have owned them- some have had bad experiences (as is true with most brands) but most have been reliable. They make decent guns for cheap prices. However, workmanship and materials will leave a bit to be desired. I had a carbine, and it wasn't all that pleasant to shoot.

The Bersa is also a decent gun, with a much better look and feel.

The 9mm will be cheaper to shoot day in and day out. Still, I don't think I'd be able to get past the looks of the Hi Point. I'd get the Bersa (actually- I have one, I never bought a Hi Point pistol, the carbine was only for something different). Have you considered a 9mm Bersa- Bersa quality, Bersa price, and shooting the lower priced 9mm ammo?
 
Yes...I've considered it.
But I can the the .380 for 150.00 used in GREAT shape.

Or a New HiPoint for 159.99+FFL and Tax.
So lets say 175.00 also....I think the Bersa will hold value better.
 
I'm a big fan of Hi-Point. I think they're a good buy for the money, but if the money is close, as it appeared it was in this case, I'd go with the Bersa also. The only downside would be the cost of ammo. You're right. The Bersa will hold it's value longer I would think. There isn't much market for used Hi-Points.
 
I bought a Hi-point 9mm because it is the most common gun I find in the wrong hands, if you take my meaning. I wanted to see how accurate and, more importantly, how reliable they were...

The Hi-point is definately on the low end of dependablilty. I not put very many rounds through it, but there were numerous failure-to-feeds.

I do not own a bersa but have had a couple opportunities to fire them. I would definately go with the Bersa over the Hi-point. My experience is that they are more accurate, more reliable, definately lighter, and much better looking firearms.

For the most part, everyone has a good experience with the Bersa's, and most people have a mediocre or poor experience with the Hi-point (sprinkled in with the rare "perfect-shooter).

Go with the Bersa.
 
I am unsure of the parts/service support of the Bersa's importer(s), otherwise definitely the Bersa. The Hi-Point and similar guns are really for a different niche, those who simply cannot afford a better gun. IMO, if you plan to put 4-6,000 rounds through the Hi-Point, you will need their customer service, probably several times. ;)

Both will have fixed barrels.
 
BERS ALL THE WAY!!

the bersa 380 was my first gun and its light, very small and easy to clean and opperate. i dont have ver y big hands but it fit completly in my hand from finger to palm.

good gun at a good price.
 
I have a friend that has a Hi Point 9mm and after sending it in for service one time it has worked flawlessly. They are ugly and cheaply made but I would prefer a 9mm over .380
 
Bersa, no question

I have both. Hi points are complete junk, IMHO. Bersa 380s are much higher quality. They are durable, reliable and much easier to conceal.

I just bought a Bersa 380 and hope I have as good a luck with it as some of the people on here have had. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range yet, so hoping it will do well. Hoping my wife will take a liking to it also. Getting ready to try to teach her to shoot. Wish me luck.
 
Bersa!!! We have a member at http://bersatalk.com over 6000 rounds and just replaced the recoil spring. He also won a 380/9mm league with his 380 Bersa.
Bersa has a warrenty gunsmith to handle any trouble He has his own sec on Bersa Talk. Eagle the American dist. is very supportive of the members supplying me with goodies to give to members in drawings. Bersa owners are a family and we have a home called http://bersatalk.com Come visit

You would not need to buy a barrel for the HiPoint....so I wouldnt consider it an issue. HiPoint has a no questions asked lifetime warranty, doesnt matter if your the first or fifth owner. They have great customer service.

I have both, havent had a problem with either. 9mm will be quite a bit cheaper to shoot in bulk, I would give the nod to the HiPoint. The Bersa could serve double duty as a carry pistol, its carries nicely and is far less bulky then the HiPoint.
