Best Flip Up Detachable Rear Sight For AR-15 Flat-Top?

Seems like there are half a dozen flip up detachable rear sights for AR-15 flat-tops.

The DPMS one is only $75 but hear some aren't happy with it.

Heard some decent feedbakc on GG&G A2 BUIS for $125 but wonder why it was improved.

And finally, ARMS # 40 seems popular for $100.

What do you recommend for a flat-top?

It's taller than the others when folded (.95" instead of .75" for GG&G) but the ARMS #40 is considered by many to be the best. It's spring-loaded when standing up, so if you hit it on a limb, it will fold over and then pop right back up. On some, when they get knocked over, you have to stand them back up.

The only thing I don't like about the #40 is, you can't fold it down with the small aperture "in play". I normally use that one exclusively, but to fold it down, you have to flip the large aperture up to clear the base.

I believe they added a detent for the GG&G. Maybe it wouldn't stay up?

I think the IRIS looks nice, but it's pricey too.

I'm not personally aware of a DPMS folder, but the DPMS detachable is a nice sight if you don't need the fold-down capability. The best part about it is, it uses a true A2 rear sight. It's design is as close as you'll get to taking a saw to a carry handle and making your own.

I just ordered the ARMS #40 from www.sableco.net. It cost me $101 shipping included.

I purchased the A.R.M.S. #40 from Arizona Gunrunners for $95.36 with the LE discount.

I made this decision after reading nearly all of the numerous comments on AR15.com posted by owners with a lot more experience with this type of sight than I have.

I use mine in conjunction with the EOTech holographic sight [511.A65].

Due to the recent Winter weather, I have not had a chance to get to the range with mine but it is of the same top quality that I have found in other A.R.M.S. products. Rugged and well built.

Just going on my Oly Arms 9mm AR as a backup to my red dot which will be co-witnessing on the front post.

The idea is to have a BUIS in case your primary sight, in your case a red dot, S'sTB on you.

Why have it up all the time in your view?

In my case, the EOTech is my primary sighting tool. The A.R.M.S. is folder down, out of the way until it's needed.

I chose the gg&g mad. It is by far the lowest profile sight and allows both apperture sizes. I personally think it is overkill to have a full a2 back up site for my uses. I don't see my self shooting over 300 yards with my carbine anyway much less after my main sight goes out. Heck, I think most people with just iron sights never adjust beyond the 300 yard setting and especially those with 16 in barrels. The ggg gave me both day and night apperatures, simple, low, snag free.

I have the Bushmaster (B.M.A.S.)flip up front and rear sights on my 458 socom and like em . They have a spring loaded pin on the side which locks them in up or down position and are 75$ each , which makes them a little more affordable . They are easily deployed with one hand and will fold down with either apertures position . Very well made ,check em out !

My vote goes to the ARMS#40. I purchased mine from PeteNH on the AR15 forum. I replaced the aperture with a standard mil-issue instead....the "long range" horizon line job on the ARMS version is a bit too funky for me. Doesn't make sense.

I have only had briefexperience with the Bushmaster and the Arms, I give an edge to the ARMs, seems sturdier ....
