Hello All,
I want to purchase a short (3 3/4") barrel Bird's head Vaquero but I would like it in .357 because I already have 4 guns that shoot .38/.357. And a couple that shoot 9mm. Including a Blackhawk .38/.357/9mm.I do not want yet another caliber. But Ruger's shortest barrel for the .357 is 4 5/8". Can this be cut down or is there a technical reason Ruger left it at 4 5/8" ? I have not shot 45 colt, how does it compare to .38/.357? thanks to all that take the time to reply.

No reason at all, it's just that they thought they would sell more with that particular barrel length. There's nothing that would stop you from taking it to a gunsmith to have the barrel shortened to however long you'd like it, and if I remember right, Brownells sells a replacement "bird's-head" grip frame for the Blackhawk that would give you the look you want. HTH.

Actually, Ruger does. Check out their Sheriffs models. The only tradeoff is a flat cylinder pin. It has to be for the ejector rod stroke. I saw one in stainless recently that had Bisley hammer and trigger installed. Sweet!
