Short cut for snubs

while on the subject, i just noticed in the recent dixie 'spring specials' flyer that they now have pre-shortened barrels for what looks like colt 1860 army models..

search their site for product #ss2281 ($75) which is discribed as "... .44cal 3" long.."

looks like it's already blued and has a front sight.

i made mine by getting a second 5" barrel for my sheriff from taylor's and just hacking off 2 1/2".. i did have to have a pro with tools do the recrowning, which probably saved the last shread of accuracy.. now i can switch from the original to the snub and have the best of both worlds..

sorry for the terrible photo; all i had was a $10 vivitar mini camera.

The second barrel idea is intriguing.
My problem is that I really like the look of Twiat's antiquing job, but I also want a full length Uberti '51 Squareback left as is because the factory finish looks so nice. So I'm likely going to need two... Which honestly, isn't much of a problem at all.

I have no interest in the deal at all, but there was a fellow over at TFL's black powder for sale board selling a short 1862 Police this morning.

I've always loved "Avenging Angels", and have kept my eye out for one. Had a 3.5" Model P like BHP Fan's in .45 ACP/.45 Colt for a couple of years, too. :) I hope to see more of Madcratebuilder's project when he's finished . . . hint, hint. ;)

I ALMOST swapped my .357 for one in .45 acp/.45 Colt, but I have a LOT more .45's than .38/.357's so I decided to leave well enough alone. It sure was beautiful, though.Weighed a LOT less than mine, too.musta been because of the BIG holes in that little gun.Don [the owner of the .45] is, sadly, no longer with us, so that ship has sailed. I share your enthusiasm for Porter Rockwell's pistolas.

This one had been someone's CAS gun, and the trigger was L I G H T - freaky light. Kinda scared me, really - I wound up never carrying it.

Neat gun, though!

Saweet!Looks just like the one I missed out on.I use .38's in my .357,and with all the weight there's no recoil, and she stays on target. Also,it's cheap to shoot.

messerist

Replacement barrels average $130 dollars at VTI for the Walker/Dragoon revolvers and less for the 51 navy and 60 Army(Uberti brand). I'm considering buying just the barrel and cutting it down.

For that kind of money can't you buy a used 1860 and shorten it?

Erich,

If I am correct, the barrel reads 45 Colt. The cartridges look short so are they 45 Colt, 45 S&W or 45 Special? Also, is that the SAECO 45 Wadcutter bullet?

Thanks.

Second look at the cartridges makes me think 45 ACP. Still interesting!

I was just thinking out loud...if you can do such a thing on a computer. I suppose I could look for a used 1860 Army. I'm sure there are a few floating around out there to buy.

I sure like these...

If I can find a Candidate, I might just try my hand at making one.

MCgunner, you won the barrel from me. It is a small world. I had bought the barrel to do this very same thing on the .44 1851 that I also have for sale on Gunbroker. I then bought the snub nose 1862 Pocket Police so I decided to sell the gun & the barrel to pay for it.

Say Erich,

Where does one get those particular 225 Grn Wadcutters? Thay have a nice look to them.

Might be good for Cap and Ball also, with that profile ( Chamers and Barrel permitting!)

Oyeboten, Strawhat got it - I got them from Bob Palermo at Penn. I'm glad MC Gunner and Gaucho Gringo were able to get together on the auction. :) Gaucho Gringo, that is a really neat looking little '62.

I may be buying an unfired 1860 Army repro tomorrow for $150.
Then I'm going to chase it around the basement with a hacksaw and a hammer!
