Sorry I got invovled so late in this...

I work for several Republican Assembly members who happen to be extremely pro-gun. We fought tooth and nail against this measure, but it's all show really. As we have only 45 republicans in the house to the Democrats 105.

Anyway, the bill was killed in the State Senate, as it is EVERY year when it is introduced by the same member from Long Island in the Assembly and passed... It's old hat, and that's the really sad part.

Breaking News from 2005

A little research shows that A 2466 has been passed twice by the Assembly, killed once by the Senate and is now back in a Senate committee.

The whole thing is an illustration of the urban/rural split on guns. Which is a sub-set of the urban/rural split on the relationship between the citizen and government. Eventually this is going to go very bad if an urban ethic of gun ownership isn't found.

Currently the gun banners can't pass anything thru the Senate and we can't repeal anything in the house.

I do think both groups would agree to splitting NYC off NYS. Then let the two entities apply for statehood. I don't see how NYC could survive without the rest of the state but Hong Kong did it for years. I bet the city would support a "border fence" then.

Amen to that brother. If anyone wants to know how they can help, e-mail is a good method as every staff person and member of both the house and senate have it. www.assembly.state.ny.us and www.senate.state.ny.us There are legislative search tools that if you type in "gun" or "firearm" will give you plenty of reading material.
