Lost somewhere in time!
I have a lower that I am buying a kit for tomorrow.

I am building a 16" Dissapator with an A3 Upper. Will be buying the detachable handle and using it as an iron sight gun for now. Scope will be later.

If you are going to bash either company, becasuse they are not BM or Colt or RRA, please refrain from posting. I asked a couple weeks back on another website, and thats all I got for responses. This being THR, I expect less of that anyways.

My budget is about maxed out with either.

M1S is $595 w/o shipping, JT is $605.

Any reason to go with one over the other, and is there a better budget kit that I am overlooking?

I got home too late to call them today, but does anyone know if either has a discount for Active Duty Military?

Whoa, before you jump, take a good look at CMMG.

I have a Bushy Dissipator upper, but really wish I'd sprung for a CMMG.

Main reason: CMMG has Dissys with Mid-Length gas system instead of CAR-lenght. As I understand it, that means less recoil and less wear on the mechanism.

Here's there site: www.cmmginc.com

I believe their Dissipator uppers are $575 complete.

I was going to say look at CMMG as well. Not only do they offer them with the carbine and midlength gas systems, but the rifle gas system as well. They also have plenty of options available as far as sights and such. I havent dealt with CMMG, but plan to as soon as I can afford to drop about $625 on an upper.

If you already have an AR, and just want a dissy, you could have your FSB cut down to fit under the handguards and install a new FSB on your barrel in the rifle location, as long as your barrel is the correct diamter where the FSB would go. I'd like to do this to my 9mm RRA (well, I dont have to cut the FSB down), but IIRC the barrel is .680" front of the FSB so I'd have to drill the FSB out with a really odd drill size (43/64) to even hope of getting it on the barrel...

To actually answer your question.....

Yes, Del Ton is another quality kit maker.

J&T guns get better reviews from the net commandos, but my Model 1 has been flawless.......even after I beat it for the first thousand rounds (no cleaning of the bolt and carrier....most of the ammo was Wolf). The little CAR kit never skipped a beat.

No idea about a discount.

One thing neither the J&T nor M1S sites mention is what type of gas system they use for their Dissipators. A midlength system is preferable to a carbine length system. A rifle length gas system will probably be the least reliable due to dwell time issues with the muzzle being that close to the port - it will run like a 10.5" SBR.

Barring that, $10 isn't much - go with the one that has most of the features you want.

I have heard good and bad about both kits. I think like anything you won't know until you get one and try it out.

Having said that, the Dissipators I've handled have been very front-heavy to me. If I were building one, I'd get an upper with an M-4 barrel (light under the handguards). It makes all the difference in the world. PK Firearms has Bushmaster dissipator uppers w/M4 barrels. You can get one w/bolt and carry handle for $585. Of course, if all you have is a stripped lower, you'd still need the lower parts, buttstock, etc., so that may be out of your price range. But it would sure handle better.

M&A parts has quality kits (from what I hear), but I am not sure if they have a dissipator model. I know they have a Mid-length though.

Call BM to get a contrasting quote; my 16" BM M4-profile Dissipator was a $525 w/ shipping from BM directly (w/ A1 sights).
