Bulgarian SLR 95

I picked up a Arsenal SLR 95 last night locally and was talking to a coworker today about it. He said he had one a few years back that had developed a crack in the milled reciever. I havnt seen anything else about this online, granted I didnt search the almighty THR archives...but I figured I would just flat out ask...Are cracked recievers a common problem for the arsenals? Or any other milled AK? And do the SLR 95 rifles have any other major problems I should look out for?

Haha, pretty sure. He had nothin but good things to say about it, with exception to the crack in the reciever. He sold it to his brother, so it didnt go far. If i can get a look at his ill see what hes talkin about and go from there.

The Bulgarian Arsenal SA and SLR series rifles are very likely the best quality milled AK's ever imported into the USA.

The quality is about as high as you can get in an AK, and the reliability and accuracy is second to none.
I've never heard a single report of a cracked receiver on one of these, and I haven't hear much of ANY complaints about one.

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for it?
My friend has one (he bought along time ago) and WE both love it. I would really love to get one, but if I saw one I wouldn't know if it was overpriced.

The only thing I can say about my SLR95 is that it is the best AK47 I have owned and I have quite a few AKs.

I have owned that and an SA93. I have heard of a cracked receiver but never experienced it myself. Remember, this is a mechanical device. A cracked receiver is certainly something that can happen. Does it happen often? No, else it would be something regularly discussed.

Of course, Glocks and FN Five seveN's also kaboom. Things happen from time to time.

Love my SLR-95! With a little invested in compliance parts you can get rid of that ugly thumbhole stock and dress it up with some proper furniture. I picked mine up last year like new in the box with all the original accessories, original box and matching manual with quality certificate and couldn't be happier with it.

The SLR-95 without any compliance parts added is 100% Bulgarian and is probably one of the most sought after civilian AK variants. A cracked receiver is hard to imagine but I suppose anything is possible. Still if I had the chance to pick up another for a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate.

Oh, I wouldn't hesitate to own one, but I have heard of a cracked receiver on one before.

Of course, I own a VZ-58 and so don't see myself owning an AK at this time...

I paid $700 face to face, and with the rifle got 7 30 round mags. 5 romanian, 2 german. A soft case, and 100 rounds of wolf hollow point in the black box. Finish wear is minimal at best. I dont mind how the thumbhole stock feels, however I need to shoot it first in order to see how much I like it. Shouldering it at home vs. using it are 2 difforent things.

It must have cracked while he was using it as a sledge hammer to drive railroad spikes because that's about the only way you could hurt one of these rifles!!!

Before I bought my SLR, I did alot of reading and searching on the internet looking for negative reports, and I asked everyone I knew who was versed in Kahlishnikovs for thier opinions. Everything I've heard or read was EXTREMELY positive. Apparently they are highly regarded. Thats why I bought one, and Im glad I did. I think this is the first negative thing I've ever heard or read about an SLR.

I wouldnt worry about it if I were you. I'd chalk it up as a fluke. Things happen. "On the norm" , your rifle (and mine) will will function long after you and I are dust.

By the way, nwilliam's looks just like mine did. I would prefer to own that AK over all others.
