I have some credit through Bushnell, and I need to purchase the best scope I can for benchrest shooting.

So far, what I have concluded is that the only real option for me is the 4200 series 8-32x40.

Can anyone comment on this scope? Is it worth the dough? I don't really see anything else from them that is high magnification at good quality levels.

Thanks

Damn fine scopes. I don't think they get as much credit as they are due. I have 3200's, 4200's and 6500's and I think they are all great scopes. The down side is the 4200 you are talking about is very long and looks funny on some guns. The 6500 is not as long but still has high magnification.

I think I am going to go with it. The 6500s are a few hundred more, and I need the higher magnification. I would prefer a 40X, but I don't want to sacrifice the lens quality to go to a lower grade series.

Also, in the little that I have had to deal with their customer service, the person I spoke with really seemed to want to help me with my problem instead of just being stuck answering a phone. That gave me a good feeling about the service behind the company.

I wouldn't.

I'd do one of these 3 things instead:

Get the Elite 4200 6-24x40mm

or

Get a fixed power target scope, like a 35x40, etc.

or

Get a larger objective lens for the 8-32, such as an 8-32x50mm

In my experience, it's hard to do good quality in an 8-32, and it's not worth the tiny exit pupil and mirage problems to crank up past 24 anyway, unless it's a fixed power target scope which is clearer, or you get a larger objective lens.

Having said that, it'll probably work pretty decently.

Here are some better options for very long range (high magnification) in that general budget range:

OR, for even less $$:
