Depending on where you live some democratic states charge sales tax on firearms. (supposed to tax the sale that happened in that state) but they are crooked towards guns.

cost of gun
shipping
transfer fee
Utah with no permit 7.50 for background check (irrelevant to other states but this cost may occur elsewhere also.)
That SHOULD be all you will have to pay.

Hope this helps ya! :D

I bought both my Colt CE, and CZ75 online. Payed a $25 transfer fees both times.

There's a gun shop probably 200 yard from my house. In fact it's the first building on my side of the road down from me if I take a right out of my drive. It's even owned by my second cousin. They charge a minimum of $50 for a transfer fee and 10% the cost of the gun if it's over $50. Don't pay that much as those are ridiculous prices for a transfer fee.

He'll hook me up with very good deals on firearms, but he does not want to get off that over priced transfer fee mess, and we're pretty cool people. I say we might be family but I'm not paying that much for a transfer fee, and I take my business elsewhere.

i understand a dealer wanting to sell you a gun that he has in stock, or can get you at a price that is competitive. that is how he gets to keep his doors open. but if he does not have it, or can not get it, he should think about all the ammo or reloading sales and other items he will be able to get from you just as a byproduct of that sale. charging 10% is way to high in my opinion. but it is his business. at $80.00, you can drive quite a ways and still break even. i would look for another dealer to have it shipped to.

I have seen a couple of cases where the gun was not "as advertised". One of the most blatant was a "NIB" Model 29 S&W that the sucker paid way too much for. The gun turned out to have a bent frame (cause unknown). When the local dealer showed the guy (not a regular customer) the gun, the man went berserk, blaming the dealer, UPS, and everyone in sight except the guy who sold him the gun! When he finally understood where the blame really lay, he was unable to find the seller, who apparently used a false name and address.

I like to see what I am buying before I shell out money.

I'm with Jim on this one ...

Some stuff you just have to be able to checkout before you plunk-down your hard earned $$$.$$

Buying these "big-boy-toys" from strangers is risky business ,, unless it's from a reputable dealer.

It's anywhere from $25. to $35. to transfer in my neighborhood. And that includes the BGC too!! If you sell on consignment it's anywhere from a flat $25., or 15%, 20%, 25% of the sale price depending on the GS's policy.

If your FFL charges you 80 dollars he is flat RIPPING YOU OFF.

No, he is charging what he feels the market will bear. If the buyer willingly pays his price, then it is not a ripoff. Is that higher than someone else? Sounds like it, but it is HIS business, and he gets to set the price.

The market sets the price. Those that refuse to acknowledge it will not fare well in business. If it is a lone example that they are pricing above market then they may do ok, but my experience has been that a person that is that far off on one issue is likely getting a lot of other stuff wrong too.

My feeling is that some gun shops charge an outrageous transfer fee because they don't want to transfer another dealer's sales. They want you to buy the gun from them, and they're hoping you'll decide to do that when you do the arithmetic on how much your "online bargain" gun is going to cost in the end. They're trying to capitalize on the buyer's ignorance. No law against that, but it would leave a bad taste in my mouth if somebody tried to do that to me.

A more straightforward approach would be for the gun shop to just make a policy of not doing transfers for guns bought elsewhere. There's a gun shop near me that has that policy: I respect their honesty, and I continue to do business with them. I have bought several guns from them, and I regularly buy ammo, cleaning supplies, etc. there.

This really comes down to people being able to buy WHEREVER they choose. If you have a dealer that is the only dealer in your area then you may have no choice. Most people this does not happen to. Choice is what is great about guns. Lots of dealers, tons of different guns. People then get to decide to buy these products where they choose. (if your dealer charges outrageous prices please choose to shop elsewhere). Dealers that charge outrageous prices usually don't do much business on the transfer side (possibly on the gun side either). Transfers are a simple process that takes a few minutes out of a dealers day. For them to charge astronomical rates is not fair to the dealer that gave the deal to the customer, or to the customer that got the "good deal." Flat out retail dealers are just sour that you are not buying the gun from them and they want to try to ensure that you do by charging more than they should. We have some dealers like that here and none of them get any transfers and hardly any business because of it. Really does leave people wondering what is wrong with that dealer and before long people stop calling them for anything to do with guns.

My "LGS of Choice" charges a reasonable $25 for the transfer and doesn't get prickly about what they transfer... however I have given them the opportunity to sell me the gun I'm after directly if they can get their hands on it (price+cc/mo fee+shipping+xfer always seems to end up being mostly a wash for new, readily available guns anyway).

Best case for them, they can get (or have) what I'm after and make the sale outright, worst case, they can't make the sale, but they do the transfer and sell the inevitable ammo and/or accessories.

That sounds like win-win to me. That's the way it "oughta be" in my perfect world. ;)

buynig guns online

Just wanted to add that I've had excellent luck dealing thru GunsAmerica, which also has a feature to find local FFLs by your ZIP code. I've bought six or seven thru them now. They rate their sellers for reliability and number of transactions. All guns were as described and arrived promptly.

My local FFL charges $25 per transfer which seems in the ballpark. It's his sideline, not his business (but he just retired from his machine shop so it may become a business for him).

Best regards,
Bill in Cleveland
