Hello to all-

Hope the new year has thus far been good for everyone.

I'm looking to buy a M1 Garand to add to my collection of service rifles. About 7 yrs back I had a legal first name change. I have the original court order with the official certifying stamp. I also have a certified copy of my birth certificate with the certifying stamp, in my former name. Will the CMP accept photocopies of both of these documents as proof of my citizenship? I am also a member of the Garand collectors association and a current CCW holder in Texas.

Any opinions on this would be helpful!

Yes I am planning on doing that, but tomorrow being MLK Day, I highly doubt they will be open

I do wonder how long its taking these days to recieve a service grade M1? I'm thinking 3 weeks tops. Does that sound right?

bryank30, damned if I know, I just walk in and walk out with the toy I select.

What I do know is that I had no trouble proving anything, the ID requirements aren't exactly difficult to meet, particularly if you have a DD214. But I don't remember specifically proving citizenship at any point, I think my other ID took care of that.

I would love to do that and thank you very much for your service to our country, but I'm about 700 miles away from the South store, in Alabama, and then they would hit me with 9% sales tax...

Uh... no... unless things have changed recently. I mailed in my most recent order a couple of weeks ago, and if I get it next week I'll eat my hat. Mmmm... delicious hat. :D

Well, UPS is supposedly delivering a package to me today, and they are unionized ..... Ya never know. Check the website, too, they might have posted business hours for calls somewhere.

I think our Garand and Carbine arrived after about 30 days. I was expecting much longer but it was a nice surprise. Either that or the mail was sent a couple weeks before I was told about it.

Even if it stretches to 45 days, when I ordered my Garand in late Summer, '09 (August) it was mid-November before it arrived.

Talk about testing a fellow's patience. It didn't help that my 2 spam cans of ammo arrived in mid-October!

Give 'em a call. It's probably something that can be worked out with a phone call and a fax.
