Can you swap a Ruger 77/17 barrel onto a Ruger 77/22 Mag receiver?

I have a friend who bought a Ruger 77/17 and then bought a new Volquartsen barrel and stock for it. That leaves him with an extra factory Ruger 77/17 barrel and stock which I will be selling for him on eBay.

Questions is, will a Ruger 77/17 barrel screw on to the Ruger 77/22 Mag receiver and work just the same? I could use this as a selling point when I sell this thing on eBay. Your input would be appreciated.

I don't see any technical reason why not: after all, the receivers are basically identical, AFAIK. Why not call Ruger and confirm with them?

I'm with Preacherman on this one.

I know you can swap a Ruger 10-22 Magnum barrel with a .17 Hornady barrel with no changes. The both have the same case head size, so I don't see why not.
