Interesting problem. I noted you later mentioned Hornady dies; is that what your's is? If so, the threads are sorta manufactored "stripped"; the collet holding it in place works by friction.
Regular dies have a protuberance as part of the decapping pin that enlarges the neck on the upstroke. Bushing dies require that a bushing be inserted into the die to work. If you don't know, then in all likelyhood you have a regular die.
