I was out shooting my 357 Sig and my 38 Super today so I thought I would do a review of the brass catcher I use most of the time.

It is from CMM Shooting sports and is readily available on-line. Not cheap but it seems to be working well over the years.

Here is the catcher folded up for storage or transportation. You basically just screw it on the upright, fold it to where you want and then start blasting .

In my top picture you can see the standard setup I use.

This is what it looks like with 100 rnds of 38 super in it. Some guns do not like to keep all of the brass in it when it gets full. The extra tension on the material causes the brass to bounce out. My super is not like this and I don't believe that it dropped a single piece of brass today out of the 500 odd I shot.

The 357 SIG on the other hand gets about 95% of the brass in a 100 rnd string. Normally it is the last round out of the mag that gets ejected straight up and misses the catcher. This round also tends to get mangled by the slide so no big deal if you lose it.

These are the guns I was shooting, a 229 Sport in 357Sig and a Witness Elite Match in 38Super. Both are good guns and I shoot them reasonably well.

Some tips.

Don't get the material tight. You will lose more that way.
Don't over crank it and have it hanging over the top of the gun. You will knock down the brass but still have to pick it up.
Don't set it too low. Better too high then too low.
Try to set the ejection port toward the front of the catcher. Note that the material on my has been blasted away from shooting too far back and burning it with my 10mm.

Final comments:
The CMM catcher is really good for bit heavy brass. 45 acp, 10mm 38 super. 100% catch rates. As you move lighter more bounce out. 40 and 357 sig around 95% caught. 9mm or 380 auto 90% or maybe even 85% on the 380 auto. I shot about 1100 rounds today and I picked up realistically maybe 20 off the ground. All of them where 357 sigs.

It works well, I use it and recommend it too you guys if you want your brass back.

Thanks for the review. Great pictures and nice shooting. I made a catcher similar in design to yours out of a old fish landing net. My wife sewed a finer mesh fabric in, as the net was too large a gap. I think it was a laundry bag. I have it mounted on a pvc pipe that can be raised or lowered. Not as nice looking but works pretty well.
