CMMG Upper - too many options

I'm planning to buy an upper from CMMG. The primary purpose would be putting holes in paper. Might do some duty as a home defense rifle, and I've always wanted to give 3-gun a try. Regardless, I don't expect to put thousand and thousands of rounds down range. This will be my first and possible only AR, so my primary requirements are that it is reliable and versatile as-is.

That being said, I'm a little confused about the following options:

Barrel - "SOCOM," M10 MedCon, or other profile?

BCG - Semi or full auto (no $ difference)

- Standard CMMG ($0), EGRESS upgrade ($30), or LMT upgrade ($180)

Feed Ramps - Anodized ($0) or Polished/Extended ($10)

Which of these options makes sense for me, and which are just a waste of money for the uses I'm planning?

Thanks for the help. Here's a link to some of the 16" uppers I'm with the available options:

I'm not sure how much help I'm going to be, since I have YET to receive my CMMG M18 mid-length 18" upper receiver that I ordered almost 3 months ago, but I hate to see a thread go unanswered.

not sure about the barrels, although I think the differences all have to do with the cut/thickness of the barrel. I chose the full-auto BCG because there was no difference in price, and I've heard the full-auto BCG has a little more mass to it, which may help reliability. not that a couple grams difference is really going to make a substantial difference, but that's just what I heard.

the egress bolt upgrade is a convenience feature really, because you can do the upgrades yourself if you buy the parts and have some spare time. it should help reliability though. the LMT bolt is completely unnecessary in your case, unless you really want the 'best of the best'. as for the feed ramps, probably unnecessary, but hey - it's only 10 bucks. maybe someone else with a little more knowledge will come by, but hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. I kind of figured the LMT upgrade was unnecessary.

mbpautz762,
Three months & no upper - yikes! Is that normal, or is there some special reason yours is taking so long? I may need to give them a call and get an idea of what the wait time would be.

Why the lightweight barrel? That particular profile looks similar to the one on my Mini-30, which makes me uneasy.

The handling difference between the lightweight and medium contour profile is significant, and my CMMG lightweight barrels (I have three) have all been VERY accurate. You do not have to buy a heavy barrel to get one that's accurate.
