Hey guys, i was at a pawnshop recently and spotted a colt 1903 hammerless pistol. It is in original condition with 80% blue/patina intact and not a reblue. It has a set of colt pearl grip on it and the serial number is 1886xx which would indicate a type 3 made in 1915 being that it is in 32.acp

Im not exactly in the best financial situation right now but should i pick it up for $350?

the grips looks exactly like the ones you would see on a nickle/pearl 1903 and it definately has not been reblued due to the patina

Standard grips: Black hard rubber.

Factory deluxe grips: mother of pearl, hand checkered walnut and ivory.
All normally with Colt pony logo inserts.

$350 sounds pretty darn good to me, if you want one.

Good shooter

ADDICT,

If you are looking for a plinker or even a self defense gun, the 1903 price is pretty good. In my area of Florida, they begin around that price ( $299.00) for a very well worn sample with the nickeling missing on half the gun.

As a shooter, it is a nice gun with low recoil and a solid feel.

The problem I most frequently see is with the safety lever slide up and down too easily. Aside from that, it is a pretty solid design.

If they brought them back with an aluminum frame and better sights, I think it would be a nice carry gun.

That's exactly right. Its also not really a safety lever with good tactile feedback in my opinion. Although the one I had was 92 years old. But the safety lever seemed to be something I had to feel for and figure out it was off or on. No nice click and obvious lowering like on my other guns.

But in spite of all that, they are great little guns. Fun to shoot, very slim, and I'd snap a nice one up for $350. I'd also buy one if they started making them again at a reasonable price.

This will be a collectors piece if I decides to buy it tomorrow, after all I am quite happy ccwing a usp45 compact. It would definately look good next to my WWII itheca 1911
