I took home a Colt Agent today it was made in 1967 and has a factory hammer shroud. Upon working the action the trigger won’t pull at all to the rear as I’m dry firing double action. I tried to cock the hammer back and it moves slightly then stops. It’s like it’s locked up or something.

If I jiggle the cylinder it frees up? I can cock the hammer and go through ten cycles fine then all of a sudden,it stops cold. No trigger or hammer movement it locks up for lack of a better term.

I am Truly stumped as I have owned several D frame Colts over the years and have never had anything like this happen. Any ideas what could be causing this to happen? I contacted Frank Glenn of Glenn customs in Arizona this afternoon. I will be shipping the Colt Agent to him tomorrow to see what’s going on with it. In the meantime I’d greatly appreciate any feedback from anyone here who knows anything I may have overlooked that I can possibly try to remedy this before sending it out. Thanks for any help on this guys.

Possibly a dried up/gummed up action from old fouling and lubricant.
Other possibilities are something going on in the action reset when the trigger is released of possibly the cylinder latch bolt is interring with the safety lever.
That shouldn't be possible unless it's been tampered with or is somehow out of position.

With a used gun it's who knows what someone has done to it.

Glenn will correct whatever it is.

Dfariswheel and shoebox1.1 thanks for your input I appreciate. Frank Glenn repaired a Cobra for me about 10 years ago did an outstanding Job. I’m no gunsmith by any means but I think whatever is going on with my Colt Agent is something minor and easily correctable by a gunsmith such as Glenn.

I bought the Agent to use as a CCW I’m sure when it returns it’ll be fit for that role. And yes pictures and range reports coming soon as well.

Megatronrules,

Sometimes the cylinder bolt screw comes loose.
If I recall, that can tie up a Colt Python/Cobra etc.
type gun.

When it jams, does the cylinder bolt not move down
when trying to cock or pull the trigger? It should
drop to allow the cylinder to move by the pressure
of the cylinder hand.

The cylinder bolt screw I believe protrudes out the
right side of the frame but its end should be about
flush with the frame. If it's loose, it won't be quite
flush.
