I have a circa-1994 Colt Match HBAR with a two screw head pivot pin. I'd like to replace it with something that does not require a pair of screwdrivers to separate the upper from the lower.

I was surprised to see that the lower reciever is NOT drilled for a standard pivot pin detent and detent spring. Besides, the pivot pin holes in both recievers seem to be much larger than the standard pivot pin size, so I can't just use standard off the shelf parts.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to do this, but I can't find a conversion pivot system.

Is there such a thing out there?

Sell it and use the funds to buy a quality rifle that wasn't designed to screw over the civilian shooter*?

On the plus side, lots of guys in ban states will pay a hefty premium for a pre-94 AR.

*Crap like that (and sear blocks, and 1/2 moon bolt carriers) is the reason Colt is dead to me.

I'm pretty sure there are adapters available for the larger holes to standard push pin size.

Find good gunsmith who is familiar with the AR15/M16 and have him drill out the detent spring hole. Then just install the new takedown pin as normal.

Dafariswheel, that KNS pin is just the ticket! Thanks a lot to all who responded!
