I have a Colt Python the Serial # is 90988 I think it was built in 1969, it is in mint condition. Any info and what it is worth would be apricated.

90988 was made in 1969.

Value depends on actual condition, barrel length, whether it has the original grips, original box with all papers, etc.

Colt values are tough to estimate these days due to skyrocketing prices and where the gun is being sold.

A good "average" would be from $800 to $1000.

What barrel length? You say "mint." "Mint" means different things to different people. To me it means no visible signs of use other than maybe a turn line.

Does it include the box and paperwork? Original grips? Blue or nickel?

If truly in "mint" condition with no wear other than a turn line on the cylinder, not out of time, etc., $1100-$1300 seems fair, more if you have the box and papers. I sold a six-inch stainless 1982 Python with box and papers for $1300 recently. After the consignment fee I netted $1145. I hated to have to do it, but more than doubling my money lessened the pain a lot.

Colt Python

My (built in 1969) Colt Python is a 6 inch blue, no lines or scratches, it has a packmier type grip with the Colt emblem on it, I have had it since my wife bouht it for me for christmass in 1969, no orignal box, no papers, timming is perect, no rotary lines on the cylinder, it has not been fired much, I did fire it recently at a gun range with my wife and it seems fine. I don't want to sell it I just want to know as much about it as I can and find out what it's worth. My wife paid $300.00 for it in 1969.

Wow, rubber boots on a 1969 Python that you've had since new ?
Are you sure you never swapped out the grips ?
I personally have never seen a Python of that vintage or near that vintage come from the factory with Pachmayer grips, especially with the Colt medallions.
Can we get some pictures ?
Can you at least describe the medallions for my own curiosity ?
I wish there was some proof of the factory putting those grips on there in 1969. That gun should have came from the factory with large wood target style grips/stocks. You would know if you got the gun in 1969 though with the grips or not.
How do you remember that it was $300, is there a receipt ? Does the receipt say anything about the grips ?

Thanks, Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

My wife paid $300.00 for it in 1969.

Are you sure? Because I bought a six inch Python brand new in the box in 1978 for $300.

And, Colt wasn't putting rubber grips on the Python in '69.

Anyway, it sounds like yours is worth around $1000, give or take.

I recalled the $300.00 because I asked my wife and that is what she told me. The Grips were on the gun when I got it and the colt emblems are indeed colt emblems, gold in color. I do not know if the place where she bought it put them on or not. I do know that she did not ask that they be puy on. I do not have the recipt nor paper work from the purchase. Did any one make the grips like this for a python in 69 that they could have been installed? It seems to me that only colt could have made and sold them with their emblems don't you?

Yes, but at a much later date.
Any way to post a picture ?

I saw a 4" Blue Python at Cabelas in Hamburg Pa for $1500 in very good condition.

Similar gun and grips...

I have a Python that fits his description - 6 inch blued with rubber grips sporting a gold Colt emblem. I bought the gun used about 9 years ago from a dealer for $630, in almost unfired condition. The gun was manufactured in the early 1970s. I don't know if it came from the factory with those grips.

You will hear all kinds of opinions about how Pythons are worth a fortune but opinions aren't worth squat unless somebody is pulling out their wallet.
You could probably sell yours for somewhere around $800 but the rubber grips may hurt the value. Original wood Colt grips are not cheap.
I'm basing my price on actual experience selling a Python, not what I read somewhere.
