How does the Howa hogue package compare to the Remington 700 VTR? The chambering will be .30-06 or .308, the reasoning for the two rounds is because I don't know if the Remington 700 VTR comes in .30-06.

It would really help if you'd tell us what your intended use was.

If it's just to take the occasional deer, and pest/varmint control, the Howa will do quite nicely without breaking the budget.

Myself, I by far prefer the .30-06. I do understand that there is a body of people who prefer the other one, but I pay them no mind.

I've got Howa's in .308 and .270, both are made very well and shoot great. I'v also got a Remington VTR in 22-250 that is a good shooter. In my opinion the Howa is a better finished rifle with a better stock for less $. As for functionality, both would be fine.
 
I do like the .30-06 round better over the .308. Howa is my first choice, but something draws me to the VTR.

As far as use, I really just want a .30-06. Maybe one day hunt some elk.

I just through out there the .308 because I don't think the VTR comes chambered in .30-06 and would have to get the .308 if I bought the VTR rifle.
