I'm looking at ether glock 23 or an XD40 4". Should I look into the compensated versions or not?

Does all that exhaust get in the way of a follow up shot?
Does it really work?

All depends on what you want it for. If you want it for defense,no. If you use the gun in a defensive shooting in low light the blast coming up through your slide will alter your night vision to the negative.....kind of like a bright flash on a camera and then all you see afterwards is a blue dot.... Not good.;)

Depending on the games you want to participate in, a compensator would be a nice feature...everything else...NO!

It would be my do-all handgun, including HD, so I guess not. Thanks for the heads up. Good point on the exhaust messing up my night vision.

Even worse is if you have to fire the pistol from a close retention position the gases can burn you.

Good luck with your purchase.

In addition to the reasons listed above a compensated gun cannot be used in IDPA competition or USPSA Limited or Production class.
Also ponder this: Do you know of ANY major law enforcement or military that uses compensated pistols?
