Concealed Carry in a Zoo?

I've looked and I can't find anything phrohibiting me here in Fl from carrying in a Zoo, so I will most likely carry tomorrow with me when we head to the Jacksonville Zoo.

Just curious, anyone else here carry in a Zoo or is it covered under the "Amusement Parks" section in your state?

There is no prohibition of the state's concealed weapons code (790.06(12)) against carrying in a Zoo.

Not every state has an "amusement parks" section.

Washington, for example.

We do, however, prohibit carry at "outdoor music festivals."

Apparently they were afraid of Woodstock.

Just learned that one major zoo has a bunch of hi-power rifles. It's in case Jumbo, Leo or Willy the Weasel go nuts or needs to be put down.

Well, the last time we went to a zoo they took one look at what county we were from and shook us down for salt and pepper shakers. We tend to see a zoo as more of a buffet than a learning experience.

I've always wondered how the zoo keepers would respond to an incident where an animal went out of control. I seem to remember a story where a "mad" Elephant escaped from a circus and took numerous handgun bullets to put down. Something like 30 rounds of 9mm If I'm not mistaken. Oh well..8 rounds of .45 in my HK USP Compact should equal about the same!

Here in Texas, zoos are okay for carry, but the one we visit, the Ft. Worth Zoo, has a big 30.06 guns prohibited trespassing sign.

I haven't been to the Ft. Worth zoo in awhile. May go this summer. Do they allow pocketknives?

P.S. My daughter graduated with honor from TCU in Ft. Worth a couple of years ago. While she was attending college there, I drove over from Dallas several times a year, and that zoo is a really good one. I especially like the big cats and the reptile house.

True, but I've heard of the horror stories lately of folks being searched prior to be admitted into certain amusement parks. I full well expected to have some sort of heightened security at the park but I was wrong. They might have been keeping tabs on folks via security cameras, but I never saw any uniformed security folks or police officers walking around. Wait..I take that back. There was one guy they put in charge of the "Walk with the Butterflies" exhibit. He made sure you didn't step on the butterflies.

I decided to just carry fanny pack so I would blend in with the hundreds of other fanny packs around. I would hated to have been made by a soccer mom and have her freak out. And believe me, they were out in the hordes!

Overall it was a fun day. Rather stinky due to the wet weather, but a good zoo to visit. Now if it wouldn't have cost me 50 bucks in gas to get there and back I would have been happier!

IIRC, someone was killed at the SF Zoo last year when a tiger jumped the fence around it's exhibit. A bunch of people stood by and watched as the guy was killed.

Too bad there weren't any CCWers there that day.
