Considering a Tikka T3 SS in 6.5x55...go or no go?

I'm about to get a stainless Tikka T3 in seven-mag for my father. I've done a ton of reading, and the Tikka seems to be, bar-none, the best value on the market.

I'd love to get one in Swede for myself. But....even though I think the Tikka is a really great piece, I'd probably get the CZ 500 FS, just because I like the classic styling and superb open sights. If you're after open sights, why not give the CZ a look? It's widely regarded as having some of the finest open sights out there. Why mod a gun that was never designed for them?

if I were going to do a 6.5 in a hunting rifle, this is exactly the rifle I would do, a stainless synthetic, light, tikka. I have 2 cz's, and they are fantastic, but they will never be made light, or in stainless synth. Now if cz did make one, I would be all over that...

I know this is an old post, but are the trigger guards on the blued Tikka T3 Hunters steel or plastic?

I am also interested in the T3 in 6.5x55 but saw that someone mentioned they they have a lot of plastic. Is this true? They don't look like it on the net but then again I have not had a chance to handle one in person.

Thanks
Greebe

Thanks for the reply.

I just have a anti-plastic sentiment. I prefer metal and wood.

Do you know if there is a metal replacement?

Thanks
Greebe

Greebe - I'm not aware of any metal replacements available as of now. That may change in the future - who knows! I like metal and wood as well but I haven't found such a critter in a 6 1/2 lbs package that shoots bug-sized groups. Meanwhile, try to get past your sentiments and get yourself a Tikka. See for yourself why T3 owners speak highly of them. Here's a 5 shot group my buddy shot with his Tikka Varmint in 6.5x55 - stock rifle with careful handloads:

Nice!

I think you are right. I think I will look for a Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5 Swede. If the plastic trigger guard really bothers me that much, I can cast one out of aluminum then use Gun Kote on it. Problem solved.

Now the question is, where would be a good place to get one?

Thanks
Greebe

Gunbroker usually has a few listed. Buds also has some listed from time to time.

Snow Dog - NICE SHOOTING:what:

walmart sells Tikkas; i'm 100% sure they sell the lite, and i believe they sell others too. go to the gun desk, ask for the rifle catalogue. find the tikka, ask them to do a price check. they enter in the # on their scanner and it comes back with the price even if they dont have one in stock. then you can order it there.

Viking - not my target, it was shot by a friend. I have the same rifle but my targets are not nearly as impressive.

Beagle - I don't beleive Beretta is bringing in the Varmint in 6.5 Swede to the US. My favourite dealer here in Canada has a few of the Super Varmints available in that caliber if you really want one and don't mind importing it yourself. http://www.ellwoodepps.com/new_firearms_tikka.asp

Eh, that'd be more trouble than it's worth. I'd just as soon rebarrel a Savage to that round. (Can Savage short actions, which are known to be longer than normal, accommodate 6.5x55 140gr. rounds?)

I own 3 Tikka T3 Hunter rifles: 1 in 6,5x55 Swed, 1 in 8x57IS and 1 in 300WinMag: All really good and accurate rifles! Best rifles for the money.
