There were a couple of factors.
1st, I have always said that I would love it if she came hunting with me. She didn't have to hunt, she could just read a book. Then one day I showed her a picture of the sunrises I got to see, and said that we could do it as a date. First we would hunt, then we could have a picnic for breakfast. I think that got her thinking.
2nd, she had an experience that made her feel unsafe, while she had our baby with her, probably nothing, but she still felt unsafe. When she explained it to me, I said, "See, don't you wish you had a gun to carry." To my complete surprise, she said, "Yes." We began to have conversations about how to protect our family with guns, while protecting our family from those same guns.
3rd, I put an sp101 on layaway for mothers day. I would pull cash with every purchase I could to pay for it, because my wife looks at our account every day. I spend money, but what frustrates her most is how much of it is at sportsman's warehouse. I couldn't wait any longer, so I told her we had to go pick up her mother's day gift early. I had paid everything, but the last dollar. When we got to the store, I took the kids so she could finish the purchase on her own: HER GUN.
Lastly, I told her that it was unsafe and illegal to carry until she had a permit. In order to get a permit, she would have to take a class. Then I explained that hunter safety could kill two birds with one stone (bad analogy).
A great example of how awesome this is, she came home the other night from hunter's safety, and before her whole body was in the door, she said, "I want a muzzle loader, you have a lot of gun's, and I only have one. I want a muzzle loader."
It is like courting all over again, but this time we get to do what I want.
