I'm mounting a Leupold 3.5X10X55mm on pre-64. M70, standard action (.270)

Is there a reference where I can match the height of the rings to the 50MM objective lens. I want the scope sitting as low as possible.

If I could find a reference that stated something like..."pre-64 Win: 50MM objective lens - med. high bridge mount, #95XXX." WOW!

Leupold, by the way, lists mounts for the Exp. pre-64, but not the standard, (if Exp. stands for Experss, that is). But maybe I've simply mis-understood their catalogue listing.

Or, can one of you guys simply tell me, "go buy a..."

Am leaning toward a Dednutz single peice set-up if I can find it.

I have Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts, part #50045, which I purchased to mount a Vari-X III 3.5-10x50 on my 1953 Model 70 .30-06. The rings are part # 49917 High Rings (.900). They were chosen from the Leupold website about six years ago. As I recall, the objective bell cleared the barrel by about an eighth of an inch or less. I do not use them now because Winchester did not drill the mount holes in the action quite straight enough. The scope does not have enough windage adjustment to zero. (I understand this is not unusual in older rifles.) Hope that .900 ring height helps.

I could part with these Dual Dovetail mounts and rings for a reasonable sum plus postage. They are gloss blued. The bases show turn marks which are hidden when the rings are in place, otherwise they are as new, having been in place for only about twenty rounds of bench and sandbag work.

As I read the Leupold Mount Selector tool, there is no distinction between Pre-'64 and Post-'64 Long Action mounts. The Express rifle distinction is apparently due to a change in the action diameter at the '64 changeover.

I've been really happy with the Dednutz mount I bought. But I usually buy Burris Signature Zee rings, because I hate to buy an expensive scope, and put ring marks on it.
