There are millions of Legally owned NFA weapons in this country. If these weapons are suitable only for criminal uses as to require a seperate classification and permits, where is the evedince backing it up  ? With the millions of short barreled shotguns, short barreled rifles, any other weapons, suppressors, and machine guns in the NFA registry how is it that we always hear of handguns as the instrument of evil :cuss: ! I would like to see the registry reopened to allow registry of ALL NFA weapons including MG....As I have stated on another board, what is so different between a shotgun launching multiple projectiles with a single trigger pull and MG doing the same? In reality, there is none except the emotional response associated with the machine gun....What is the purpose of the registry other than a sign of good faith between citizens and the government saying," I intend to only use this item for legal and lawful purposes"? So having said that, the registry needs to either be opened up to all NFA weapons; or discarded as a breech of the public trust :cuss: ! Lastly, how do you get a sound suppressor(not a able to shoot anything by itself) to be classified as a firearm! Illogical to to say the least :( !

This should be the goal of the firearms enthusiasts out there.....to bring this truth to light.....A gun is a gun is a gun.... :neener:

If I can be trusted with a concealed carry license and/or hunting type rifles, then short barreled shotguns, shortbarreled rifles, any other weapons, sound suppressors, and MACHINE GUNS should not be denied me either; or any other person that qualifies for that matter :cuss: Let's get a study done on the use registered NFA weapons vs non registered in crime and the evidence should speak volumes to the rationale used to design this legislation.....we can mail it to represenitive and governors.....Truth is rarely able to be denied when it finds the light of day....

Welcome to THR.

I agree 100% and have to say you are kind of preaching to the choir on this one.

The only reason the NFA "worked" as far as machine guns go is that not very many people had them.

I've have had read somewhere that they tryed to make handguns NFA items, but too many people had them to be able to enforce it.

If I recall correctly, there were slighly less than 400,000 legal full-auto's in the country before the FOPA of 1986 was passed.

I have noticed over the years that the Govt will ban certain firearms or parts that the majority of Americans, and even gun owners, don't really care about or even want to own. Notice in todays headlines that all eyes are on the .50 caliber rifles. Most people don't give a rats ass about it (until its to late) because it doesn't affect them directly. See what I mean? Now talk about banning handguns on the Federal level and even the Soccer moms will bitch! :uhoh:

thanx guys,

I was hoping to get a plan of action from more politically iinformed people than I.....Not more of the posturing we gun lovers love to do instead of action :) ....
Should we try to get a state to knock this down? Should we go directly before Congress with a list of the NFA weapons owned and Never used in crime? Should we use the Constitutional claim that miller had and never got to pesent? Should we raise a few millions and have a "sacrificial lamb"(the least favorable and palatable idea)? Should we start engaging in small acts of civil disobedience ie, cut off a bunch of barrels on some crappy guns and all get arrested for nothing more than what is actually our birthright? Or do we just sit here pontificating as we take it up the rear :cuss: ?! Our reactive nature has done nothing but add fuel to the fire of the enemy, and I for one am tired of it.....If need be I will figure out a plan and begin to execute it myself, but I figured if ever there was a group of people with a dog in this fight, it would be here  .......

Well, if you look at the govt's past record, those small acts of disobedience with firearms seems to get most people killed in this country. Sure you want to risk such a very small act like (example only and a lethal one at that) having a shotgun with a barrel length 1/4 inch shorter than legal length described by the U.S. govt? If you look at the NFA overall, sadly to say, most people don't give a damn about it. Its bad enough just trying to hold on to semi's in a culture that I consider brain dead let alone full auto's. Its not the Govt, its what's available (people) to elect in this country. There are no good people to elect that can bring this country back to what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights really intended us to live under. So the Govt we have today is what the voting majority has given us....
