I have searched a couple of threads here and done the state search at packing.org, but I'm still confused. My wife and I (Texas CHL holders) will be travelling to southern Illinois this weekend to visit family. I'm comfortable with Oklahoma, and Illinois policy is clear enough (nfortunately), but can someone give me a sense of where the law in Missouri stands regarding a) concealed carry with an out of state permit b) transportation of loaded weapons in a vehicle (peaceable journey)?

It sounds as though both are still verboten, and that our only alternative is open "visible" carry. Am I correct, or is the new law in full effect?

Thanks,

MO Supreme Court hears arguments on this issue 1/22/04.

There is currently an injunction preventing the law from taking effect. Some lawyers claim it is only binding in St. Louis or in the Eastern District, but you don't want to be the test case.

Open carry in MO will get you charged with brandishing or disturbing the peace, or carrying "concealed" depending on where the officer is standing.

NM Supreme Court just threw out an identical injunction Monday.

Can't find my pamplet on the carry laws in all fifty states at this time. But I go to Missouri yearly to turkey hunt. As I remember this last spring you can have a loaded handgun in your vehicle but it must be visible. No concealed carry on your person though. And yes theoretically you can carry open. If in a rural area you could get by with it maybe. When I passed over the Ark line into MO I put my loaded handgun on the dash. Silly isn't it! Stay out of Kansas City, Columbia and St. Louis.
