I would like to have my 1911 "customized." You know, just a reliability upgrade, beavertail safety, new sights; the usual, and maybe some checkering and a magazine well for my new stainless colt series 70. Who could do this for me? I'd prefer they be close to utah too. Thanx for your help!

Congratulations! There are more gunsmiths specializing in customizing of 1911s than anything else out there today . . . PLUS a ton of aftermarket custom parts too!

There ARE some hacks out there, but also the 1911 is a fairly easy gun for any competent machinist to customize if they simply follow training and instruction.

1911s are a lot like Harleys . . . the guns are best when individualized for they make a statement about the owner of the weapon.

Check with the American Pistolsmith's Guild for reputable gunsmiths who pass their stringent standards if possible.

I just use skateboard tape on my STS series 70. Saves a ton of money, and really holds tight. My own series 70 is completely reliable, so unless your proves unreliable, I would not mess with it. Re sights, yes…that I can see. I personally would send it to Clark or Colt (slide only) and get adjustable night sights.

Postr pics when done.

There are a lot of places out there. The only one I've dealt with personally is Cylinder and Slide, who did a great job doing custom work on my High Power.

CT Brian is in Grand Junction, CO and does great work. However I just checked his website and it says he is so backlogged that he is only accepting orders for full house custom guns. Wayne Novak of Novak's .45 Shop is in WV, but does great work. He's done two Colts and a Browning Hi-Power for me and I'm very happy how they turned out.
