CX4 9mm vs. 40SW

At present the capacity on forties is just 11 rounds, so I bought mine in 9mm which comes with two 15-round mags; 16 rounds on tap is very nice to have. With 147 gr. Gold Dot ammo, the CX4 in 9mm is a very potent defense carbine. Especially considering the low 9mm recoil, which will aid in speed and accuracy of follow up shots.

I have several guns in 9 and some in 40 as well. I think either caliber can be very effective if the shooter does his job well. I like the nine for economy of shooting, capacity, and with the right ammo I feel well protected with 9mm.

My intention is to buy the new PX4 in forty caliber when they come out. They will have 14-round mags in .40 caliber, which with extension can hold 17 rounds of .40, giving a capacity of 18 round of forty caliber!

When that gun comes out, I'll also buy a .40 cal. conversion barrel for my 9mm CX4, so then I'll have a CX4 and PX4, each sharing the same 17-round mags. 18 (17+1) .40 caliber rounds on tap with each gun is a very nice set up indeed.

Here's a link for info on the PX4:

Thanks for the info. Do you know when the PX4 will be on the market?

Your guess is as good as mine on the relaese date. It was supposed to be this month, but who knows. I am gonna' pick up a 9mm Storm, and quite possibly do what DHart is planing on later. Where have you seen conversion barrels?

The barrel swap thing might be a rumor... and I forgot that a new bolt (breechface & extractor) would be needed in addition to new barrel and magazines. And the upper is serialized. So perhaps the caliber swap wouldn't be so easy and inexpensive. Probably better to just spend a little bit more and get a second complete carbine in forty. That's probably what I will do.

I'm told at the gun show today that the nine is outselling the forty and the forty-five by a wide margin. No wonder, very economical to shoot, effective with the right ammo, and with 20-round mags readily available... sheesh! I just bought a couple of Beretta 20-rounds mags for the Storm today. 21 rounds on tap in the Storm is pretty cool.

The forty-five only holds 8+1 rounds.

The forty is 11+1... until the new PX4 pistol is out, then there will be mags with capability of going to 17 rounds (with extension) in forty caliber! That will be really nice.

As for availability on the PX4 pistol, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't readily available until next spring. But they look to be worth waiting for. If they're executed even half as well as the CX4 Storm carbine is done, they'll be a real winner.

I'd get the 9mm PX4 (we are talking about handguns right ?), but then I don't like .40S&W.

Its my understanding that the PX4 will not share mags with the CX4.

The CX4 currently shares mags with the 9x series and I read the PX4 will be using a new mag.

The CX4 Storm carbine has the ability to adapt to different mags. There is a sleeve in the magwell which reduces the size to acomodate a 92 or 8000 mag. With the sleeve removed, the CX4 has the same magwell as the magwell on the new PX4. Beretta's design is brilliant and very well executed.

Well thats good news then because I really liked the look of that PX4 if it stays within the same price as the M9. Is there an MSRP on it yet?

I am really looking forward to having a carbine that takes the same mags as my pistol. The larger cap on the PX4 is a bonus as well.
