i just brought a new firing spring for my enfield no4 rifle mk1 and need to know if thier is a way to remove the fireing pin without the use of the special tool. maybe some of you guys have come up with your own tools of the trade over the years? my second question would be if i do need the tool wheres the best place to get one?

You definately need the tool. And, I suggest soaking the bolt in something like WD40 or some other solvent first. Be sure to remove the little clocking screw on the cocking piece before you try to inscrew the pin. Numrich or maybe Brownell's will have a tool.

I've got the Numrich tool. I've heard the teeth are fairly delicate so make sure it is well-seated. It worked fine for me. It may be years or never before I need to use it again. I just wanted to fully disassemble everything for a good cleaning after I got it.

I made one from a cheap 7/32", deep, 1/4" drive socket. Just ground the tip down until it fit. I've used it on several rifles, works great. Cost about a buck.

I used a 6mm 1/4 deep well socket from autozone and cut it to fit with my dremel. I'd take the bolt with you to be sure the socket fits in the bolt.
